The Moment You Started To Love Him

Like much of the fandom, when I first started watching Shadowhunters, I felt more empathy towards the character of Alec. Unrequited love is something almost everyone has experienced, and coming off of the movie where Jace wasn’t really a character that caught my attention, I didn’t expect to find him as fascinating as I inevitably did. 

It wasn’t until episode three (or four) of season 1 when I started getting inspired to write about the Jalec relationship that I really took a hard look at Jace as an individual, and as the season progressed I became more and more interested in his backstory. This culminated in the reveal about Valentine being his father in the latter part of the season, and by the time Jace starts falling apart, I knew I was a goner. 

I don’t really watch a lot of interviews and such, but honestly the stuff that comes across my dash paints a picture of an actor that is incredibly dedicated to his role and his commitment to embodying his character is nothing short of admirable. Dom’s progress from episode 1 to the current season is clear for anyone who cares enough to look, and even though I’m the first to admit that the material he’s given can be uneven at times, he delivers solid work with every new episode.

His portrayal of Jace is unique, and while I appreciate the character in all its facets (book, movie, show), Dom’s version of Jace is my favorite. In the hands of another, less passionate actor, I fully believe that show!Jace wouldn’t be nearly so compelling to me, and I’m very glad that Dom continues to portray Jace with such enthusiasm and love from week to week.
