Now that I've had the post-marriage family planning cutscene, I have a great many questions. About sex and the universe. Come with me. Spoilers below.

Is the Great Bird just a videogame contrivance/cute way of presenting the scenario to the player (that is, giving them the option to have a child without biological pregnancy involved in any way) or are we supposed to believe the Great Bird is an actual entity in this universe, the same way monsters and dragons and magic are? It has a gem next to its nameplate, implying it has a friendship level. Is the Great Bird diegetic? I think it has to be, since if you have a male/male relationship, you still end up with a baby that has your spouse's characteristics. And Caldarus/Seridia immediately recognize it and call it by name.

So if we take "the Great Bird is a real thing in-universe" to be true, I have many follow-up questions, including but not limited to:

Do people in the Fields of Mistria universe have any need of contraception, or can they just ride bareback as much as they want because they need to consciously decide to have a child? Is accidental pregnancy possible here? This raises some interesting questions about people like Balor. In his family planning dialog, Balor more or less says that his own father was neglectful/absent and he wants to become the kind of father he never had. It would imply his parents wanted him at the time of his conception and no longer cared for him later (his father, at least). That's really sad.

If it's always been possible for two people to essentially magic up a baby whenever they wish for one, why do women still choose to carry a pregnancy? What kind of personal values, social attitudes or mythologies exist about pregnancy, birth, the female body etc if humans have always been able to reproduce without it? All female marriage candidates eagerly offer to become pregnant first and Celine and Reina both say they know what to expect because they witnessed their mother's pregnancies with their siblings. Seridia's dialog reads as though she's done this before, addressing the Great Bird as "Old Friend" (though this is mostly in reference to her reincarnations). All of this suggests that, even though pregnancy is entirely optional, most women still choose that route despite the pain and risk involved.

Do humans still menstruate? This is a serious question. It wouldn't make much sense to have a menstrual cycle if pregnancy is just a choice. Then again, if 90% of people are still being born the old-fashioned way I suppose it's not out of the question.

Do they have like, stereotypes and superstitions about stork babies vs natural birth babies?

Is this a broadly acknowledged thing that everyone knows about? Do children learn about natural birth vs stork when their parents give them "the talk"? Is the option only revealed in a dream/vision/notion when the time is right and then forgotten on waking up? If so, is it the case that every now and again, a baby seems to just pop into existence somewhere without being birthed?

Why is the choice of pregnancy seemingly limited to humans? The animals on your farm seem to mate the conventional way when you feed them the treats to encourage them to breed. You can't breed F/F or M/M animals together. (Side-note: I raised this with my partner and he thinks it's a non-issue and just implies that the Great Bird/being able to choose pregnancy is a function of sapience.)

That's not something you want to find out for yourself as if you want to know because for a human being that will be the loss of everything they were enjoying as humans to enjoy what a crow enjoys.

I happen to enjoy the same things crows enjoy for my own reasons of loss and everything, and there is nothing sinful or wrong about it. I follow the way of the Lord in the Way of Christ through all ages.
