As the Sidewalk Splits
They built their walls thick,
praising the stone,
the heavy iron,
the armor that keeps the world out.
They called my softness a flaw,
a crack in the foundation.
But I have watched the earth work.
I have seen the quiet, emerald pressure of a single stem
split the sidewalk wide open.
I have seen the gentlest water
carve its name into the grandest canyons.
Let them harden.
I will keep my roots deep.
I will keep my chest open.
There is a wild, patient power
in learning how to bloom
through the cracks they left behind.
