There are a lot of jokes about how underappreciated the Great Hawk is as a love interest : he is (weirdly enough) the only one to kidnap you and NOT force you into things, requires nothing of you, and every scene he has he is extremely gentle and always proud and protective of us.
However my favourite scene of his (and one that makes him such a great love interest for me!) is the one where you stumble upon the abandoned baby harpy. Whether you have children or not, the player has the option to either completely ignore it/go towards it but refuse to get it to the tower or adopt it. Choosing to ignore it is the only thing that can make the Great Hawk dislike you/lose interest in you. If you choose to adopt it you get these lines :
Which are just. They are so emotional? We don't get the PC often remembering the fact that she is an orphan (we might occasionally have an NPC, or antagonist hurl it like an insult, but due to the game trying to let the player self insert as much as possible, it avoids giving the PC dialogue on it) and it's such a deeply impactful moment regardless of whether your PC doesn't give a second throught on the fact that she is an orphan or not.
Also aside from the PC I think it really shows Great Hawks personality! He is a natural protector! He is collecting orphans like Pokémon cards in his past time! Adopting the little harpy genuinely feels like us accepting the bond we have even more deeply.
Great Hawk (m) x Reader - CW / TW's : You are technically not here by choice (Stockholmed / Kidnapped.) Reader is written to be generally gender neutral, however there are multiple instances of GH referring to you as 'wife.' Great Hawk obviously written as a monster-person (harpy.) No smut (yet) but definitely intimate.
Dappled sunlight filters through the cracks in the brick barricades surrounding your nest, the thin rays catch on dust motes floating through the air overhead. Your eyes fixed upwards on the ceiling follow the motes about while your finger tips continue their task in sifting through the downy feathering just above your.. Spouse's nape.
His head hangs limply against your shoulder, steady breaths puffing against the skin exposed by the collar of your shirt. Warm, consistent, and when he feels your nail's scrape pleasantly against the plumage his throat begins to rumble. It's a sound you've grown used to by now, though it had startled you at first.
What sort of bird purrs? You'd thought.
This one, apparently. But it was a happy noise, you knew now, and.. It was cute.
A lot of things about your impromptu spouse were, actually. Much to your surprise, the giant hawk like being that had snatched you right from the ground and rattled you about fifty feet in the air for two hours before dumping you in a decrepit tower and trying to feed you lurkers was.. Cute.
Guilelessly charming, eager to please, affectionate in a way that didn't demand reciprocation, and most importantly: valued your consent. That last one was more than anyone back in town could say.
He reminded you of those sweet, colorful little birds you'd often see in the pet store. The kind that would flit over and cuddle up in the crook of your neck, contently grinding their tiny beaks and taking seeds from your hand with avian delicateness. Of course, they would often fling the remnants back into your hair, or nibble strands off in their attempts to show you love back, but those silly troublesome tidbits almost made them cuter.
Budgies, you remember the sign beside the cage said. Alongside a startling cheap price tag for something so alive.
You would've liked to have one, but Bailey would've never allowed it. Even if you snuck one in, there were plenty of ways it could've gotten hurt. Imagining them makes you shudder internally and halt that train of thought.
Besides, you had a bigger, better budgie right here, didn't you?
You take in a deep, soothing breath that leaves you soon after with a bit of an unintentional tremble. The scent of sun and something grassy- damp moss you think- mixes with the grounding weight of the harpy's body atop your own, allowing you to slip into a semi-mindless state of content relaxation.
Your mind wanders, as it tended to do when you have nothing else to occupy your time with in the tower.
You think of the food you used to eat. It wasn't like you were starving here, but the Terror's idea of cuisine wasn't exactly up to human standards.
Where did the budgies like to be scritched? Neck... Maybe a little higher?
You think of your classmates, your.. Friends, if you could even call them that. Had they even noticed you were gone? Had they put fliers of your face up on the walls?
Your fingers shift up, grazing the sensitive feathering that tended to perk and droop with the Great Hawk's emotions. Like ears, you figured. The Great Hawk shivers, sighing against your neck.
You think of Robin. They would have definitely noticed your absence by now, right? You hoped they hadn't tried to go looking for you. You hoped they were okay, that they were managing without you, somehow. Rent was hard to keep up with after all-
Maybe higher? Just a bit, the top of the head?
There were some places you weren't supposed to pet the budgies, you remembered the shop-keep warning you when you'd gotten too overzealous in scritching and stroking.
Where were they again..?
Your questing finger tips slide through the silky, feather-like lengths that crested the Terror's skull. Careful to avoid catching on any of the little ornaments or braids you'd placed in them as the digits stroke through his hair, then down the length of it. He stiffens, but you don't notice.
Rent. Shit, rent. Bailey. Was Bailey looking for you? Still racking up your debt even when you weren't there? Adding interest for the missed payments? taking it out on Robin-?
Your hands movements had become panicked, harsher than intended, without your realizing. Even the thought of Bailey, of missing your payments, sending your stress levels through the half crumbled away roof.
"Wife.."
The tender call of your title breaks through the melodic ambience of his previous purring, a dove like coo which snaps you from getting lost in your own mind.
You sputter, eyes wide as they meet the Terror's own. Large, almost-owlish, olive green depths that you are so used to seeing sparkle with affection and mischief find your focus now with concern.
His head tilts, inquisitive.
"Wife is scared. Touch is tight." He keeps his voice low as if speaking to some small, startled animal. One taloned hand raising to brush in a mimicry of your own loving caresses against your hair.
"I-.. Sorry, I didn't mean to-" You release your grip immediately, but he hushes you with as best a shh as he can manage, throat clicking in that distinctly avian way you've come to no longer associate with horror movie dinosaurs and instead his attempts to soothe.
"Wife safe. Wife safe." He repeats, that same coaxing coo as he leans in. He nuzzles you, almost like a large cat, or.. How the budgies snuggled you before. Nose gently bumping against your own as his purring resumes but deeper this time, drawing you back into the comfortable contentment it's supposed to exemplify.
And it works. The purring, his closeness, the warmth of his body and breath against your face - The security, it helps.
You sigh again, more noticeably shaky. Heartbeat from pounding drums that hurt your ribs to measured, steady beats.
You're quiet for a moment, taking it in, then you laugh. A hushed, breathless thing, relieved almost.
".. Thank you."
Your gratitude is met with an even softer, pleased trill as the Terror pulls back just enough to meet your gaze again, his own shining with that unconditional love that makes your chest ache for an entirely different reason.
But it only lasts a moment before his eyes clench tightly shut, a sharp intake of breath while his feathers puff up in a way you've only seen happen when he's agitated. The sight makes you still as well, blinking widely, just in time for him to call your title again.
It's still soft, but laced with a graveling husk as he breathes out a hot breath that sends an unexpected tingle zipping up your spine.
His eyes flutter open again, half-mast through unfairly thick lashes, their gorgeous green nearly fully eclipsed by dilated pupils.
Your mind races, boggled by the sudden shift, only to then realize that your hand has slipped down between his shoulder blades in the panic-laden chaos.
The budgies love to be pet! But remember to keep the scritching above the neck, otherwise-
A flush begins to creep up your neck, cheeks burning as the warning returns to your memory.
.. Tell-tale poking near your thigh draws your attention downwards, but you don't have to look to understand what's happened.
He looks almost apologetic, lips tight and thin despite the silent pleading that consumes his gaze. He avoids meeting yours, as if ashamed of his own biological response. One you'd inadvertently triggered.
You swallow the nerves that have bundled in your throat, shaking yourself from your flustered stupor with a light toss of your head back and forth.
Your lips twitch upwards with a warm smile, the hand on his back gentling as it strokes over the area in slow circles now.
The motion draws another, almost whimpered, gasp from the terror. His body seizing tautly above yours: Wings twitching from their folded sheath against his back, taloned hands shoving down to grip in a restraining hold against the nest below you both with a force that would have frightened you if you weren't totally certain that he would never employ it against you.
"Shh, it's okay." Your turn now. You assure him, free hand raising to cup his cheek. It's as soft as the rest of him.
The terror seems to lose some of his tension, lower lip wobbling as he leans into your touch with a hushed, plaintive warble. Those feathered 'ears' of his droop.
You nuzzle him this time, drawing him closer with your careful hold so that when you lie back fully against the nest, he follows.
"Wife." He whispers this time, against your lips, which his eyes can't seem to help but flick down to.
"Mhm." You nod slowly, shifting your hips so you can comfortably lift your legs and hook them against his hips with a guiding squeeze.
He's still stiff at first, but the squeeze is enough.
He goes pliant, hands leaving the nest to hold your face in turn. But just for a moment before his warm palms slide down.
Over the sides of your neck, your shoulders, your upper arms. The touch leaves goosebumps in its wake, heat settling in a steady bloom across your cheeks now rather than a mortified inferno.
You breathe out, silent permission, and he trills again. Lips meeting yours in a careful, tentative kiss. Just a brush, really. Then another, and one against the side of your mouth, one on your cheek, the bridge of your nose, your brow- His hands find purchase against your sides, clawed thumbs rubbing slow circles just below your ribs. His lips find yours once more.
This kiss lingers, not invasively, but tenderly. Every opportunity to pull away given as he begins to purr again. The sharp tips of his talons glide down your lower body, the scrape purposeful and pleasant, tempting you into an arch below him while he swallows the ensuing gasp.
Hips in his hands, grip firm, he shifts forwards, securing you beneath him just as he needs you. His heat slots against you and his kisses shift again.
Trailing ghosting brushes of his lips to your jaw then along it until he nips the skin just below your ear with dangerously sharp teeth.
The ones you've seen rip open squirming prey alive until sinew drips down the front of his body and bloodies his feathers a brilliant scarlet.
But used so intentionally gently with you when they find your neck now instead.
WOULD THE DOL LOVE INTERESTS (+ some choice NPCs) HELP YOU WITH YOUR HRT INJECTIONS
ROBIN would be happy to help you! in theory. in practice they get squeamish about administering an injection, but they get better at it with time and confidence.
WHITNEY says only if it’ll give you bigger tits
EDEN would if you reminded them to and if they weren’t mad at you, but they don’t trust any medication you get from the town and especially not anything you get from harper. if the injection is in the ass or thighs they grope you while doing it. they're good at giving the actual shot itself though.
KYLAR would do anything for you, my love! they get too overzealous and forget to wait for the rubbing alcohol to dry before jabbing you, and they push the needle in too hard, so it hurts. they also lick the blood off afterwards, if there is any.
AVERY says what? no we’re in a car. you couldn’t have done it before the date? (avery it takes thirty seconds) yeah well if you bleed on the seats you’re paying for the cleaning (avery it barely bleeds) don’t care go ask someone else
BLACK WOLF says no. pack leader needs to stay fertile
GREAT HAWK is scared of needles. why are you stabbing yourself. every week??? scary :(
ALEX happily agrees and is surprisingly professional about the whole thing. only after working at the farm for a little longer do you recognize that they’re sort of treating you the same as they do the livestock. at high dom they also grope you while doing it though.
SYDNEY, similarly to robin, is happy to help in theory, and then gets nervous about doing it in practice. she gets sirris to help you instead and holds your hand, telling you that he helps her with her shots too.
BAILEY only agrees to do it if you pay them enough. doing the actual prep costs extra btw.
HARPER is thrilled to get to treat you for your transition healthcare! they make sure to massage the area extra thoroughly and get you suuuuper relaxed so there’s no lingering muscle tension that would make the injection hurt more. what do you mean you don’t think all this touching is necessary? are you a medical professional? no i didn’t think so.
