Khal Drogo, the Great Khal
Khal Drogo is a much more complicated character than he often gets credit for. A lot of takes I've seen about him either cast him as Daenerys' devoted husband, or as a vile rapist. Khal Drogo was a skilled warrior, charismatic leader, and surprisingly gentle partner.
In preparation for his first night with Daenerys, he learns a small ammount of the common tongue. While he could have learned more, he specifically decided to learn the word no. There's a lot of complicated uses of this word in the book. The use that could be problematic is when he tells Daenerys not to cover herself, though it could also be him telling her not to be ashamed of her body. And of course, he explicitly and plainly asks Daenerys for consent before they actually have sex.
Of course, the issue of Daenerys' age, especially in comparison to Drogos, is concerning. Drogo is in his early 30s, while Daenerys is only 14. Even in the world of ASoIaF, this is a concerning age gap. Because of this, it's fair to question the validity of Daenerys' concent.
Furthermore, Drogo is a slave trader. Him and his Khalasar actively attack undefended villages with the express intent of gathering slaves to sell to the slavery cities. Even when he allows Daenerys to protect a handful of slaves, he treats it more as a joke, or a sweat if naive gesture from a sweet girl.
While he seemed to care a great deal about Daenerys, and her own comfort, he didn't really respect her. His culture did not treat women as equals, and in many ways treated them as possessions. While Drogo doesn't seem to treat his wife as a possession, he certainly doesn't think of her as an equal partner. Even when she demonstrates her capability of rage, he attributes it to his child growing in her.
If Drogo had come across Daenerys after Astapor instead of back in Pentos, it's very likely they would have been bitter enemies. But as it is, he was a loving if demeaning husband, who helped Daenerys come into her own strength.
