A Dark God
FAIRY TALE ART SERIES | L. Frank Baum's 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' | PART 5 “And the scarecrow found a tree full of nuts and filled Dorothy’s basket with them, so that she would not be hungry for a long time. She thought this was very kind and thoughtful of the Scarecrow, but laughed heartily at the awkward way in which the poor creature picked up the nuts.”
Here’s my interpretation of the Scarecrow from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz! I was so struck in the book by how tender and loving the group dynamic is, especially since they spend a longer time together vs what is seen in most screen adaptations of the story. I had a lot of fun designing his character and trying to push him away visually from what’s been done before - even though I’m sure I’m not the first to make him a smaller guy. Without a height comparison, it might not be super clear here, but he’s meant to be as short as Dorothy!

Meet Tobias; elf father and human mother brought him into the world but due to being different species he came with a lot more against him.
