At my Mother’s home. I found all of her wall art at various thrift stores for next to nothing. I can’t go too much into detail on the artists because I don’t know much or anything about them. But the artwork is magnificent and I can speak on their work. This untitled piece is by James Thorpe. The medium used is oil on canvas. The theme is Movement and Balance. You see movement particularly in the water splashing where the white color pops right out. The horses themselves show movement. There is quite a bit of balance overall in the painting. Where are the horses going? There eyes are all facing in the same direction. “The other side”. This can be a very spiritual or religious meaning. Horses symbolize the natural wild side in nature. Horses also resemble the Archetype and Greek God Poseidon. Poseidon resides in the depths of the devowering sea. Poseidon doesn’t follow the rules. Do you know someone that fits this description? The sea is also known as the subconscious. Here is the kicker: If the water represents the subconsious. The trees and shore represent the boundary between the conscious and subconscious . The air and clouds resemble consciousness. Then the horses also resemble balance. So you revealed the meaning and message by how the horses are positioned, the details of their surroundings, and you can also interpret this on a spiritual level. It’s the path that one takes throughout life to reach the ultimate goal. The horses resemble our soul chariot and moving forward down that path. Since there are many, it’s collectively. Overall, this painting resembles the process of achieving one’s greater Self or becoming a balanced being. Don’t even get me started on the colors. I will say this though, white resembles the learning part of your life. You are brewing, churning and becoming a better person. I’ll go over colors and alchemy more when it is the theme of a piece. Let me know what you think. Again, there are no wrong answers.
. Tip # 3) If you don’t know symbolism, Greek Mythology or Alchemy, can go the round about way and look to nature. Horses are wild and free naturally.
