My mate Grant Allen @grantallencookltd wants to convert me into a Kiwi bloke. So in one of the initiation rites, a visit to his favourite Pasadena Bakery on 1043 Great North Rd, Point Chev. Owner Tuyet Thi Ha is known to everyone as Tui. She and her partner have transported their baking skills from Saigon to bake Kiwi classics. They start baking early and open the bakery at 5.30am. Pretty soon the first customers roll in, tradespeople drop by on their way to work and there’s a procession of punters throughout the morning to lunch time. By 11am most of the popular pies would have run out. Grant and would-be Kiwi Bloke rolled up before 11am. The vegetarian pie I wanted had sold out; so I chose the Butter Chicken Pie. Grant always has the Potato-topped Mince Pie. My pie was so good I’ll gladly turn into a Kiwi Bloke. For afters, Grant couldn't resist the Chocolate Lamingtons, oozing with cream and dollop of jam. The Apple Turnover I had was fresh as and exactly what I wanted. I now have to welcome my new persona, The Kiwi Bloke. I'm sure detractors will have a lot to say about that but as I always say, jog on mate. * Jason @burgseye, you missed out big time. #pasadenabakery #ptchev #greatnorthroad #potatotoppedpie #butterchickenpie #chocolatelamington #appleturnover (at Pasadena Bakery) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByryMukpMaT/?igshid=ofoyopkoq6ix
Central Cold Store, Smithfield Market, London, England. Meat has been traded at Smithfield for over 800 years, whilst the Grade II listed buildings that we know today were created by Sir Horace Jones in the second half of the 19th Century. Much of the market has fallen into disrepair, but is now part of a regeneration plan to save it. This building now houses a power station. Smithfield Market is traditionally considered to be the start of the Great North Road, which goes all the way to Edinburgh. #smithfield #smithfieldmarket #market #centralcoldstore #coldstore #London #England #greatnorthroad #documentary #documentaryphotographer #documentaryphotography (at Smithfield Market)
