As I write this, it is April 1, but this is no April fool’s joke. Green cleaning and safe chemicals are being required by more and more individuals. Last week, I testified at the Missouri State Capital during a hearing on the Missouri Green Cleaning Law. This week I was interviewed by Contracting Profits magazine on the need for ingredient disclosure mandates. As a result of the testimony I gave to several House of Representatives, I will be back again this week talking to Representative Margo McNeil, seen in the picture here, informing her on some of the finer points of the healthy reasons for Green Cleaning. HB1602 sponsor, Zachary Wyatt and co-sponsor Ms. McNeil are looking for information as to who and how schools are moving to implement Green Cleaning into mainstream practices since the “Missouri Green Law” is voluntary. Unfortunately after hearing testimony from Ralph Bicknese, seen in the picture, it would appear that since it is not mandated it has not been widely accepted. On the other hand, this focuses more attention on the ones who are “Proving Up” their commitment to not only embracing the law, but being ahead of the curve; schools like New Franklin Rl and Rolla Public Schools, both of which have earned the Green Clean Schools certification from GCI. As the month of March came to a close the interview with Contracting Profits was interesting as there are 13 states currently considering legislation to identify and reduce exposures to chemicals of concern. In this interview I spoke to the need to have other issues also a part of this legislation such as the need to have standardization of the labeling and MSDS for all individuals to be able to comprehend not only the ingredients, but their exposure concerns. When the full article comes out, I will pass along the link. All of this action brings me to this point. The GCI courses and certifications which individuals and organizations are earning, is evidence of the proactive move to improve our way of life while doing our jobs to the best of our ability. Improving the indoor air of the existing built environments through healthy cleaning is truly what this is all about. I congratulate the 4 new Firms, and 6 renewing Firms who brought with them the over 100 new GCI certified individuals for the month of March. Find a GCIC firm or individual at www.GreenJanitor.net, where you will find one of the newest individuals to earn certification in Lagos, Nigeria-Africa; or contact us to get yourself or your Firm identified so that I can point to your success when visiting with interested parties. Have a wonderful April. Regards, David Thompson
