wait i had a thought and i’m too excited about it to wait to share it. so the alternate ending sucks in a lot of ways, in terms of storytelling, but also? because? it means that beau joins the cullens less as a member of their family, but mainly as edythe’s mate?
like i’d argue that bella only really becomes a part of the family at the end of new moon at the earliest when she saves edwards life in italy. and even then, that’s just everyone definitively accepting her (see: rosalie), not bonding with her. i don’t think they get to know bella and form bonds with her until at least mid-eclipse, at least that the reader can see? i mean, there’s the summer between the events of twilight and new moon, too, but beau doesn’t even get that. so when bella becomes a vampire in the end she gets edward, but also these other people that she really really really knows and loves.
but since beau becomes a vampire so much earlier than bella did, nobody’s really had a chance to get to know him, until now hes just that human that their sister is obsessed with. he seems like a good guy and all but mostly we’re protecting him so edythe doesn’t go jump off a cliff when he dies (archie says “do you think any of us wants to have to look her in the eye for the next century if something happens to you?” and he might know beau because he can see the future, but beau doesn’t know him)
idk i know i’m thinking too hard about twilight and someone can slap me but it just takes something away from what little poignancy the story has i think
the original twilight was a lot better than green twilight and that’s saying something. even the writing in green twilight was worse. how do you become a worse author after writing for a decade???? im gonna write up a big post with my before thoughts and after thoughts?? like a review i guess, if only for my sake LMAO. i have a Lot of Twilight Thoughts. but red twilight was definitely better you feel. like maybe it’s just because i’m older reading this one for the first time?? but i dont think so. the feelings in green twilight and the feelings i felt while reading it just werent the same and i think that has to do more with the book than with me
a very stark contrast: in the original epilogue (an occasion), bella goes to prom. in this epilogue (an occasion) beau watches his own funeral
royal was involved in the mob i guess? that, hm
sculpicia and athenodora are badass and i love the new volturi!! women ruling the vampire world!!! heck yeah!! especially since in the original they literally were just locked in a tower for four books. but mele is such an over the top thing to add like what she’s so overpowered stop that why would you add that this is all to make the book "less sexist" isn't it
look, like, part of me is satisfied that smeyer cut the crap and let beau become a vampire right away. twelve year old me is pleased. and i know she did this cause the plot with the pregnancy doesn’t work now. but come on bella didn’t get to make this choice. edward just kind of… made it for her
in red twilight bella recognizes the ballet studio because she took lessons there
in green twilight beau recognizes it because his mom taught lessons there??? why can’t beau dance, stephenie meyer. why can’t beau dance
