Fic Questions! # 3, 9, 10!
3. Which was the hardest to write, in terms of plot?
Oh gosh…for ongoing fanfic, Between the Shadow and the Soul. I’m constantly checking my notesand worrying about not including details that will come into play later. I’malways worried that I’ll write something only to end up having very importantin a later chapter contradict it.
As for finished fanfics, Soon-To-Be-Mother-In-Law Knows Best. I knew the events I wanted totake place, but the flow of it was very hard to nail. Constant rewrites werehappening.
9. Favorite character to write?
Bog and Marianne tie for my favorite POV to write. They’re so similar it’s not too hard to switch their POV’s, but I love writingMarianne’s feistiness and her selflessness and her moments of thoughtfulness, and I love exploring Bog’s pensive side and how his struggle between being aKing before anything else. I love writing them in both their fierce moments andtheir vulnerable moments.
Dawn and Griselda tie for Non-POV characters. Theirsheer enthusiasm and positivity and they’re incredibly distinct voices, andexploring the surprising depths their characters have, it’s just…so muchfun, I love them both so much…
10. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you’ve written?
DEAR GOD, DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THIS IS TOO CHOOSE? ThankGod this is only for dialogue, if it was descriptions, I would NEVER be able todecide…
This might be a cheat, but the entire soul baringconversation that Bog and Marianne have in OnceShattered, Twice Shy. I’m really, really proud of how that came out, wherewe ended up going with these characters. Special shout-out goes to “Bog…you’re the most beautiful person I’ve everknown.”
I also adore the motherly conversation that Griselda andMarianne have in Soon-To-Be-Mother-In-LawKnows Best. I think it showed us just how important Griselda is to both Bogand Marianne’s development, how Marianne isn’t just bonding with Bog, she’s finding a new Mother figure in her life, a new person to be in her corner…
I would be remiss if I didn’t include this littlesnippet from What A Lovely Way To Burn:
Helooked at her, and any humor in his face faded, leaving pained stoicism behind. When he spoke, his voice wasn’t sardonic, but full of quiet concern for her aswell as an acceptance that spoke of a painful familiarity of losing what theheart wanted. “Still playing with fire, Tough Girl?”
Mariannelooked up at him, mouth tense and eyes full of raw vulnerability and desperatehope, and knew there was only one answer she could give. “You’re not gonna burnme.”
I just love the sheer power of it, how Marianne is taking chargeand showing him she has no doubts, that she knows he is a risk she wants totake.
And, for the sheer fact that I cannot think about it withoutcracking up, Bog’s “Ye’ve got hair theretoo?!” from To Bloom In Darkness gets an honorablemention.
