Even good people have to do back things sometimes, Martel told herself. She didn’t think what she was doing reflected on her morals at all, but it made her feel disgusting. She had a reputation for being one of the best hands with thread in the village, since she made her and her brother’s clothes. She thinks most of the people that come to her are doing it more out of pity though. Better this than let them starves the village decided. She had little pride, though. She was okay living off pity.
She hates when humans come into the village, though it’s always diplomats. To elves, she’s still a child, and off limits. But to humans, at nineteen, she’s old enough to be considered for many roles. She’s a pretty thing, despite her blood, and people have picked up on that.
“You know, if you’re willing to be extra friendly with me, I could find you a job in my house.” The human she’s fixing the outfit of offers. She thinks he tore it just so he could come here and hit on her. There aren’t many half elves in the village, and she’s prettier than most. Plus, she’s the oldest female one without parents to fall back on.
“I have a job here sir.” She’s always polite when she answers, even though she’s disgusted. She knows what she’s being offered.
“Not a good one. I’ll be in town a few more days. Find me if you want to take me up on my offer.”
She doesn’t seek him out. She knew that situation would make her more money than she has now, she maybe her brother can go to bed on a full stomach for once, but she can’t do it. She can’t let Mithos see her in that way. Besides, he’d have no future there. Even when she passes out from hunger a week later, she never regrets it.
