This afternoon, in a drenching rain, I paid my respects to one of the greatest #baseball players who has ever lived, #HallofFamer, #JoshGibson. Buried in historic Allegheny Cemetery here in #Pittsburgh, Gibson’s grave is up a very steep, very slippery hill with a simple stone marking his final resting place that states “Legendary #Baseball Player.” Frankly, in its simplicity, it belies the prodigious talent this man possessed. To conjure that talent, I went to the location of #GreenleeField, the first African-American owned stadium in the #NegroLeagues and imagined the great Gibson crushing monstrous homers for the #PittsburghCrawfords. As the rain soaked through my hat(s) and jersey chilling me thoroughly, the thought of Josh Gibson pounding those homers made me smile, warming me while I imagined the “Legendary Baseball Player.” ⚾️ @MLB @BaseballHall @NLBMuseumKC @NLBPrez @joshgibsonfoundation (at Allegheny Cemetery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRc6vlIsBf4/?utm_medium=tumblr
