yay!! I'm gonna talk about Greenwire :) my guy

What is your OC's full name, if they have one? (as in Rodimus of Nyon, Getaway of the Corcapsia Incursion etc.)

I don’t knowwww I’m sorryyyyy lmao I’ve tried to keep my ocs’ histories pretty well removed from most of the canon stuff so I can have a lot of freedom. But that means I want his battle of origin (he’s constructed cold) to be a previously unmentioned planet and I haven’t got it in me currently to come up with a fictional planet name lol I’m really picky about naming things. However, on his paperwork and in his records none of it is Greenwire - he was built as “Redwire,” it’s my joke about the bomb diffusion “is it the red wire or the green wire??” trope, but since he’s, well, green, everybody kept misremembering his name as Greenwire anyway, and eventually he got tired of correcting people. I also like having Green or Greenie as his nickname, Greenie especially since it calls up that connotation to newbies. In any stories where people use his nickname, I’m usually using Green between respectful interactions, and Greenie from friends that are very close, or being condescending. Laurie especially, they never call him Greenie except when they’re purposefully being a little (in a friendly way) condescending. So anyway. To answer the question: Redwire of [battle]

What's the earliest significant story event they can remember/were involved in?

This is what I currently have in my Greenwire doc: “Wakes up - knows his job is to diffuse some bomb or whatever. Succeeds.” So let’s develop that on the fly here. He really wasn’t supposed to survive. His group’s function was to spread out, clear the field, and make ready the way for the actual fighters. And in that case, it doesn’t really matter if they live or die as long as the bombs are either diffused or exploded. It happens sure, but it was mostly an anomaly that he completed his mission and made it back to camp alive. He understood pretty quick that “the only reason you’re alive is because you did everything perfectly, and mostly on luck.” When that realization set in he had time for about a four hour breakdown and existential crisis, and then he was sent back out with a gun with the rest of the soldiers. Noticing his aptitude, he was eventually recruited to do some more special training in explosives in addition to his inbuilt programming, but that battle was his very first memory. It certainly didn’t have a longstanding effect on his mental wellbeing (lies).

Your OC is given the opportunity to completely change their frame and/or alt mode to whatever they choose (within reason). Do they do it?

Hnghgghkjhkj this is a Greenwire ask if there ever were one!!!!! Before Earth, he might have had tall aspirations. I mean, everyone wants to feel big and powerful. He probably would want to be something stronger, bigger, maybe even a flight frame, something with built-in guns, who knows. After coming to Earth - all he wants is to be able to drive again. That’s it. He’d give up almost anything for it, but it might never come. He’d be entirely satisfied giving up any opportunity for a different frame if he were only able to have back what he had.

Oh no! We've jumped universes, and now everyone's all weird and Wrong! What is your OC's Shattered Glass counterpart like?

Ok shattered glass sometimes annoys me because they can’t seem to make up their minds what they want to get opposite-ed. Everyone’s faction gets flipped sure, but is it also their personality? Their morals? It’s different for every character. BUT, hm. Let’s see. If Greenie were a decepticon… we could have him plant bombs instead of diffuse them? Instead of flipping his personality we could take his flaws and dial them up to eleven - instead of sometimes being uptight and controlling because of his insecurities, now he is massively controlling, self-aggrandizing, and insecure. He’s ruthless and direct and aims for exact perfection. I’m thinking Azula from Avatar lol

y'all are seriously spoiling me with these asks. this is really fun :) i'm gonna keep theme and do Greenwire again for this one.

13. How do they deal with pain (physical or emotional)?

Emotionally, I’ve had him and Laurie have a few one-on-one emotional conversations, and he didn’t fight toooo hard at letting some of those truths escape. But he certainly wasn’t going to bring it up on his own, either. I think at his core he’s very practical, and if it gets to the point where his (or anyone else’s) emotional constipation is deteriorating the situation, he’ll get that angry sort of embarrassed and either convince himself to “get it over with as fast as possible,” (maybe they’ll forget), or if it’s someone else he might get sort of snappy, a little bit of “stop being an idiot and just tell me what’s wrong. Otherwise we’re both sitting here prolonging the agony.”

For physical pain, he clams up hard. That rule of practicality is still forefront, but in his opinion, there aren’t many situations that would be improved by him going “hey guys, ow.” That said, I try to make it more of his evaluation of the situation than mine as the all-seeing author. So from an omniscient perspective it’s easier to say “always let the group know when you’re injured” but from an on-the-ground view (even from irl experience) it’s much harder. So yeah, he’s less likely to say anything on his own even than the emotional stuff, and even when directly confronted he still might try to deflect. Maybe his immediate reaction to the ingredients of “we’re in a situation” and “I’m hurt” and “but probably nobody knows” and “so why bother?” quickly devolve into “if I say anything, that makes everything 100% more complicated and the emotional strain of (and embarrassment toward) complicating the situation outweighs the physical pain 1000 to 1.” There being limits to what his mind and body can sustain, of course. But it won’t be voluntary

16. Point assign D&D ability scores to your OC (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA; out of 27).

Okay so I needed to do a little research so I’m using these descriptions for all the scores. I decided to do this using Cybertronians as baseline (as opposed to humans, which interestingly, if humans were baseline tfs would obv be crazy high in STR, but for the others, honestly, my first instinct is that it would vary widely. I would be easily convinced that CON wise they’re actually lower than humans on average, (due to my niche headcanons about robots in general), and for INT I mean yeah they can technically like. Download any language. But in canon I don’t see them having any broadly superior problem solving skills than humans do. To-scale DEX would probably be the same, but would drop for interacting with human sized objects. And for some reason living for millions of years doesn’t give them wisdom or charisma (except if you’re Optimus Prime.))

STR - 10. If that. He teeny DEX - 16. Diffuse those bombs babey CON - 12. Eh INT - 12. WIS - 9. Impulsive CHA - 16. People like him

18. If they can or would drive, what would their car be like?

Is this a joke question. He is a car and he can’t drive Kidding kidding. He’s a generic guy! What’s a really generic car. But also a beer-drinking sports-watching car. I’m thinking the little beat up “FOR SALE: $1,000” on the side of the road of a model nobody has ever heard of. But I’m open to suggestions

3. What is their stance on religion? Are they a devout believer, against the idea of gods, or somewhere in between? Do they make their practice or their opinions public, or keep it private?

Laurie is not religious. If I wanted I could shoot them with the Religious Trauma Beam™ like I have, but I don’t think they deserve that lol

Greenwire I think is on the religious side of things, but my hc for Cybertronian culture is that it’s pretty different than any Earth religions. I’m a big fan of the Primus = Cybertron version, and if I ever get around to it I wanna explore what that means for the religion and the followers. 

I’ve previously had him say things like “Primus below” as an expletive despite being on Earth which I think is funny. It’s just a saying, of course it gets transferred without being altered. Greenwire has never even been on Cybertron.

9. How do they fare in cold or hot climates, and which do they prefer?

Greenwire answered here :) 

Laurie does not like being cold. Cold weather is fine, as long as they can stay home in a sweatshirt and a blanket. They don’t mind being warm as much, they sweat a lot at their job so they’ve kinda gotten used to it. And they love the sun. They’ll be outside all day long if it’s sunny. 

10. Share a sentence of dialogue from your OC that you think represents them well.

Here’s an exchange between both of them, entirely out of context lmao:

Greenwire: “Dude, I appreciate the love, but you gotta move. There’s waaay too many pinch points near your flesh if I fall asleep and move by accident.”

Laurie: “I don’t care.”

Greenwire: “I care.” He used a hand to push them away, slowly sliding them across the dusty floor of the garage.

And here’s a different one:

Laurie was still for a moment. Then they got on the floor, scooted next to him, and gave him a big hug around the waist- as far as they could reach. “You get a hug. Sorry.”

His arms were lifted slightly in shock. He brought the one down around Laurie and gave their shoulder a little pat.

Let’s do greenie since he’s been on my mind 💚

4. How do they act when they’re sick, and does it change depending on who they’re around or how sick they are?

It’s stupid that this one is so hard cause this is like… my whole shtick lmao i get got good by that sickfic flavor of hurt/comfort 

But. i think on the whole Greenwire tries to be pretty pragmatic. Isolate, medicate. If it gets to the point of needing medical care, he doesn’t actively avoid it. He’s been pretty alone for the majority of his life, and he’s learned to take care of himself. However, if the circumstances presented themselves, I could absolutely see him getting clingy when he doesn’t feel good. Just all the hugs and naps.

8. What’s something that your OC owns that means the world to them? What’s something they own that they don’t like, but can’t bring themself to part with?

On the whole, and especially during wartime, I hc Cybertronians as pretty nomadic. You’re either living on a ship or on a base, both of which are liable to get blown up without much notice, and relocation is frequent. So, not many possessions, if you don’t like losing stuff (he does not). But for the sake of the question, I bet he might have some stuff kept on his person in a little cubby hole. He likes sports, so maybe he has a really old video recording of some pre-war sports stuff, wayyy before he was created. Maybe he idolizes some of those old players. Maybe he watches it when he’s feeling down. 

I do think if Laurie gave him something he’d have a hard time parting with it, whether he liked the object on its own or not.

9. How do they fare in cold or hot climates, and which do they prefer?

For cold I choose tfp rules. Regular human wintertime is nothing, but the depths of the poles get challenging. Quick search reveals the coldest recorded temperature on Earth as -89.2 °C, and the lowest recorded in the lower 48 as -56.5 °C, so somewhere between those I'd say is the cutoff between dangerous / not dangerous. That said, I also enjoy g1 cartoon rules of “frozen in ice” = “live forever” so let’s say at a certain point they shut down but don’t die. 

The award for highest melting temp of any naturally occurring metal goes to tungsten at 3422 °C. So let’s just say for ease of rounding that with homeostasis efforts (and assuming they’re made of fictional incredibly resilient stuff) a Cybertronian would definitely not survive past 4000 °C. They could not live on the surface of the sun. But in more average circumstances, when Greenwire gets overheated, his fans kick on, and around other Cybertronians this makes him embarrassed and angry and mean. I suppose that means he would like cold conditions better.

3. What’s the worst they’ve felt emotionally? What’s the worst they’ve felt physically?

anon, you win. you get the gold star. joke's on everybody, but #3 was the reason the list was created in the first place, haha

but hm. i almost don't wanna pin it down, since the fun of making stories is upping the ante in this department. BUT we will do it anyway. let's do Greenwire :)

What’s the worst they’ve felt emotionally?

i mean. probably right now, the time since coming to earth. take away a car's ability to drive. take the "Auto" out of "Autobot," and i don't mean "Automobile," i mean "Autonomous." he's left with so little agency it's laughable. anywhere he wants to go he has to walk. and there's not exactly public transit for giant robots on earth at the moment.

even in the cute little comic found here, it's played as funny cause it kinda is, but it's also horrible. he can't even go out on a date without bringing Laurie, and as much as he loves them, it doesn't feel good to be bound at the hip out of necessity. narratively, they end up acting a lot like a living mobility aid, and he's stranded, literally, without them. planning is difficult, both of them trying to live their full lives but also balance this weird symbiotic relationship, it's just a lot.

What's the worst they've felt physically?

uh. i mean this fic is a good contender lol

but. he used to work with explosives. like as his job. and it's in his lore that he's caught an explosion to the face at least a few times over the millenia. i don't think practically physically a person can feel any worse than being blown up. it's just a day in the life of a giant robot soldier, huh

12. If they had the chance to erase parts of their memories, would they take it? What would they remove?

for Greenwire: honestly. i really don't think he would. he's not that old compared to the other 'Bots, and he didn't see as much of the war as some of the others before it was over. if we're talking about personal turmoil, his worst might be happening right now, mid-plot, and all this stuff i don't think he'd ever want to erase either. he likes that stupid human too much

actually. i take it back. whatever the most recent embarrassing thing he's done that keeps him up at night. done. gone in a heartbeat. lmao. he does not want that
