His hand lay on her cheek as a single tear rolled down her fair skin. As much as she hadn’t been able to admit it out loud there was a part of her that understood why he was leaving her. For the last few months they had lived in their fantasy world. They had been the happiest the two of them could have ever asked for. There had been no bullets, no broken bones and more importantly no death.
Until his phone buzzed at 12:08 am and pulled them from the game of Monopoly she had been dominating. Greg Hennessy had pushed himself off the hardwood floor his brow instantly furrowing with worry. It had been clear to the red head who sat on the floor watching him with concern that something had happened. When he hung up the phone he turned to her slowly, devastation etched into his face. He mourned for whoever had died and for what he was about to do.
“Red,” he said softly as he took a step forward a hand reaching out and pulling her to her feet. His other hand cupping her face like he had a million times before. “I need to return to Porto. It’s Alessia. She’s been murdered. Veronika needs me.”
Senna wanted to argue with him about how she needed him but instead she just silently nodded her head before pushing herself up onto her tippy toes to give him a soft kiss.
“Just be safe alright. I don’t want to hear you were the next.”
Senna hadn’t even finished packing up their game before he was walking out of their bedroom with a black duffle bag slung over his shoulder. Greg offered her one last long hug and an I love you before hurrying out the front door.
He had thought his time in Porto was over.
He had been wrong.
Whoever had killed Alessia Auditore had awoken a fire within him that he thought Senna had silenced.
Gregory Hennessy was back
and Porto Velho wasn’t ready
