Thought I’d finally post these. This was mine and @exit421‘s entry for a graphic novel grant. We were both super excited to put this fun and heartfelt comic into the world.

NPC is about a non-playable character that breaks free of her role in the game, and has to go on a wild and colorful adventure to free her best friend from an endlessly looping world.

I wish Greg was still here to write his stories. I enjoyed being a part of bringing them to life. He was a joy to work with, and I learned a lot from him about lettering and the general process of making comics. He gave me my first professional comics job, and I’m forever thankful for that.

Happy new year, Greg. I hope you’re resting well.

We've just learned that Greg Thelen ( @exit421 )--cartoonist, IRL friend, and part of the X-Plain community from its start--died suddenly last week. 

If you want to do something in Greg's honor, his family is directing donations to the Human Rights Campaign (hrc.org) and American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).

Greg’s friend Marty is collecting comics and creative collaborations Greg was part of. If you're one of the many folks he made art with, please drop a line here.

Meanwhile: Stay safe, and be kind to yourselves and each other. Greg was an amazing person, and this fucking sucks, and we wish we had something more upbeat or helpful to offer right now.

Today I learned that Greg Thelen passed away on June 5th. I worked with Greg on his comic, Amanda Green, SIA. I really love the characters and the charming story I got to illustrate.

Greg and I also teamed up a few months ago to create a pitch for the creators for creators grant. Although we didn’t win, we had begun submitting to publishers for the graphic novel idea. We were both so excited to see where it would go. I hope I can do something with what we had and continue it in his memory. It really meant a lot to me and I was so proud of what we’d made together.

I’ve never worked with anyone more thoughtful and understanding. He had a skill for creating real, heartfelt stories, and I’m so happy to have worked with him.

Rest in Peace, Greg.
