Microsoft Word | Cool Tips and Tricks for Microsoft Word 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013
Microsoft Word is full of little tricks that can make your life easier and more fun. Below is the the list of our favourites which I hope you enjoy.
Random Text
This little gem function allows you to add sample text into your document which is great for working on layout. Type =rand(1) and hit enter and like magic a paragraph of text will be added into your document.Type =rand(3) and hit enter and three paragraphs of text will appear.
You can actually control exactly what you want to appear by adding a second parameter into the rand function. For example rand(3, 8) will give you three paragraphs 8 lines, rand(1,20) will give you one paragraph of 20 lines.
Clipboard History
Keeping a history of all the things you have copied is so valuable. To access your clipboard history simply click on the small icon within the clipboard section on the Home tab and the panel becomes visible. The clipboard history will remember over 20 of the your most recent cut and copy operations.
Translating Documents
Occasionally I get sent documents in a foreign language that I use to forward to a friend to translate until I found that Word had it’s very own translation tool. Under the ‘Review’ tab you simply select the Translator and the list of languages is extensive. Also take a second and try out the mini translator if you are in Word 2010 or higher.
Grabbing Screenshots
I am always writing tutorials so I love this one. Without leaving Word you can get a screenshot of any a application you have open. It is so easy to make your documents look really professional with high quality screenshots. On the ‘Insert’ tab select the screenshot menu.
Double Click And Drag
After a lifetime of copying and pasting it was strange to change but double clicking or highlighting some text and just dragging it is quicker. Try it.
Adding the Date
We have all manually entered it a million times but next time just hit Alt-shift-D and the job is done.
