𝓣his is an order. Find out what you can and eliminate any threat. I am counting upon you to do this job well, Sebastian.
𝓦hispers among those who wandered the the streets in the cover of darkness were as commonplace as the murders and atrocities that occurred therein, and hardly thought to be of any edifying value. Gossip and slander were the vocabulary of the poor, and they used it as foolishly as they did their weekly paychecks. It was only when their whispering increased that one might have reason for suspicion, for as much as superstition ran deep within the hearts of those who lived day by day, they were the keepers of London itself, and there was seldom a person who went unnoticed past their watchful eyes.
It was to the decrepit part of the city that the tall butler found himself drawn. To the heart of London's poorest and most desperate; those would would sell out their own mother if it meant a few extra pieces of silver. It was the most profitable area to glean information, though he knew there would likely be quite a bit of which had absolutely no pertinence to his mission.
Ciel had been clear in his instructions, even as his wheezing breath made it difficult for him to draw in the nessiary air. The child's asthma had flared up, bringing with it the shortness of breath and chest pain that constituted the attacks. The boy's small body was wracked with frequent bouts of severe coughing, and he was often fatigued by the lack of sleep he had as a result. The doctor had been in to take a look at him, and though his treatment had warranted some relief, the child was in no physical condition to be wandering the damp, dirty streets of London's poorest areas. But he also had a duty, one that he would never neglect, even when not formally asked by the Queen herself. He sent Sebastian in his place, ordering him to do his bidding as he himself placed his trust in his servants, something of which his butler did not approve, but had no right to object to.
The orders were simple and straightforward. Sebastian was to find out what he could about a certain young man, and if such rumors happened to be true, he was to learn what he could of it and eliminate any and all threats he may perceive, be they to the Queen or her subjects. Quite simple indeed, especially when the rumors of a young man who had stumbled upon the fountain of youth seemed as if it were a tale of a people wishing for a better life.
