*I yelp in surprise, and just like how someone might flinch on instinct at a loud noise, I cast a shield spell on myself as soon as my eyes register danger before my brain has a chance to catch up.
I stop in my tracks as I realize that no, we're not under attack, and dispel the shield a bit sheepishly. I look concerned for my new friend all the same*
uh faera? you're??? on fire??? you're not hurt are you?!??
*I tentatively inch a bit closer to him, my hands hovering as if I'm not quite sure what to do but want to help anyway*
-wisteria
*faera blinks. the mysterious stranger blinks. the watcher flower, mysteriously, does not blink. you assume electro and phaze have also paused for a few seconds to process the situation.*
Faera (still on fire): ...OH, you mean this! It's uhh... more of an annoyance than anything. Better than melting-slash-goop-thing, haha...
Phaze: It's better than it used to be, if you can believe it.
Electrodendra: our home fire extinguishers have had a LOT of use over time. mostly by me, as far as i've lived here.
*faera nods at both of their statements, smiling awkwardly. he takes a few deep breaths and holds a hand out to phaze, who steps closer. phaze makes two tiny hexagonal domes over the fires- you definitely recognize those as shield magic/spells, but like... strong-but-tiny!- and the small flames flicker out, barely leaving smoke trails in their wake. he seems totally fine- absolutely unharmed by the flames at all. now that you're looking more closely, he definitely seems used to this phenomenon happening.*
Faera: My magic's, uh, very strong. And VERY sensitive to my emotions. Technically it's...
*he looks around for a short moment, his sentence trailing off.*
Faera: Well. I could probably explain better later, if you're still hanging around after this event. But see, I'm unharmed and okay, even if that looked bad. Which... I'm now realizing probably did look bad.
Phaze: Not as bad as the time you tried to take those cookies out of the oven with your bare hands-
*faera playfully (and gently) swats at his husband, who just laughs.*
Faera: Hey, I promise that I'll never bake when I'm sleep-deprived and bored ever again.
*phaze has a smug look on his face, looking like he's about to make a dumb joke or something, but he seems to think the better of it and stays quiet for the moment.*
???: Uhm. Anyways. Where DID you find my dearest Gravy Boat Biscuit, wandering around this place?
*you see electro roll their eyelights at the mention of the watcher flower's name. meanwhile, the person holding the flower creature tucks it partially into a bag, like... a purse dog. (you're pretty sure dogs don't really belong in purses.) however, the bag is 1) fancy and 2) full of dirt... so you guess they came prepared, at least? the eccentricities of the wealthy are always a bit strange.*
hm, let's go see what the commotion is about!
*gently making sure the little plant buddy doesnt fall, I head over to see what the fuss is about*
did anyone happen to lose a pet?
-wisteria
*as you get closer, you start to hear Faera and someone else talking. the Watcher Flower in your hands starts fidgeting, attempting to crawl up your arms and atop your head as you walk. It successfully does so- you can feel it looking around.*
???: Oh, my dearest Gravy Biscuits is MISSING! How could I ever go on without them?
Faera: And you're sure they're still here?
???: Of COURSE! My little Gravy-Bavey would NEVER leave a party without me!
Faera: ...Ah, alright.
*suddenly, the creature leaps from your head onto the arm of an avian monster! the bird monster chirps in surprise, the watcher flower's eye turns green...*
*and faera yelps in surprise as his forearms catch on fire. it's obviously a magic thing- faera showed you his fire powers earlier, and the flickering colors definitely match his purple/pink/orange magic & eyelights.*
*i find the little thing to be adorable, and decide to let it move about as it pleases on my palm as I study it*
lmao irl some bugs (spiders + anything of the wasp variety) terrify me but in general im pretty decent with most critters and creatures. they like if your gentle and patient. I used to be terrfied of all animals when I was younger, but I've grown past it for the most part!
well, I've certainly not encountered creatures like these before in the other worlds I've been in!
most plants were either of normal variety, had magical properties, or were sentient enough to have rudimentary societies like us mages and humans and monsters did in our earliest ages.
*drifter!wist is in the habit of saying concerning things without realzing they are concerning, just like irl me fr lmaoooo*
hmm.... well actually I suppose there were several carnivorous plant species trying to eat me on that one world a couple cycles back, but I emerged unscathed, ha! they moved about a bit like this one does.
*I coo at it again*
you're so cute! not gonna eat me, are you little buddy?
-wisteria
*the watcher flower's eye color turns yellow instead of gray, and its petals bend inward a little bit as its stem slightly droops.*
Phaze: It's totally harmless, they mostly survive off of chlorophyll and a tinge of magic.
Phaze: ...They are definitely majorly toxic/poisonous if eaten, though. Not that you should try eating them- they're considered something of an "exotic" pet here.
(oh, so this little guy is most likely someone's lost pet! maybe faera left to try and find its owner, since he seems to know a lot of people in this venue/event.)
*phaze looks at you, concerned, as you talk about some of your experiences. electro- in contrast- nods, seeming to understand some of the struggles.*
Electrodendra: yeah, it's great to be on a planet with absolutely NO ginormous carnivorous plants. i definitely don't miss those universes.
Phaze: ...Wait, did you say sentient to the point of creating societies-
*but before he can question it further, you hear someone... yelling about "flowers" and "gravy"? there's a commotion in the direction of the food tables. the critter also perks up at the noise, its eye turning gray again and looking in the same direction.*
