queerwatson drownedcat YES YES!!! my problem with musicals is that not Every actor is a singer or dancer so if the theatrical market in America is just geared toward musicals you’re fucked. Also it seems like a lot of musicals are just recycled ideas/stories that could work just as well for a straight play. And plus with straight plays the focus is more on dialogue rather than atmosphere built through tech aspects and how much they can push the limits. It seems like Every new musical is just an adaption of a film or something that tries to be super Edgy without any substance like “Shit we’re making a crude musical because musicals aren't like that lol they’re supposed to be all classy and happy” when theatre is already like that. It’s nothing new. I also just feel like a lot of musicals just get churned out and they’re kind of like the Hollywood summer blockbuster of the theatre world. I don’t know I have a lot of thoughts on the subject matter. (And in no way am I discrediting musical writers and actors, it just seems like musical fans in general like to act like Every musical Ever written is a fuckin masterpiece).
