well! it’s about the characters i call “macaron fighters” for lack of a better name, that i’ve been drawing on and off for a few years (here’s the tag)

it’s a coming of age story about a group of friends who met online, on a magical girl forum (or i guess a subreddit would be more acurate to out Time) and meet in person for the first time. they share a box of macarons that they bought in a little pastry shop, and talk about how they wish they could be a team of magical fighters together. what they don’t know is the macarons were baked by a WITCH, and they grant their wish! now they have to fight funky little monsters, go through all the magical girl anime tropes, complete their character arcs, and defeat the villain if they want to go back to their normal lives. there’s also a bunch of LGBT characters and themes, and some gay romance subplots, heck yeah

it’s set in a slightly magical version of Montreal where magic is mainstream, but not really common (think Kiki’s Delivery Service and how nobody questionned the random witch who showed up one day). because it’s montreal, the characters speak french, english and some other languages (i was thinking of color-coding the speech bubbles). one of them is hard of hearing so there’s some signing too. language diversity! yeet!

maybe i’ll actually start it one day!! who knows!!! until I do it’s fun to think about at least

Setting up Creatures Exodus: My setup

I am installing the GoG version of Creatures exodus today, and for anybody’s future use, including my own, I am recording my process.

 When using the installer, set the install path to C:\Users\"your name”\Documents\Creatures

Otherwise half your game will be installed there anyway.

When running the game don’t let it “update to the newest version” that will break it.

Install the official breed packs (I will post about these)

Install Vampess’s CFE creatures and Docking Station and Creatures 3 fixes,  also her portable learning machine

Install C1toDS. (This also allows Docking Station to play offline)

 Install Albian Warp , this can be a bit awkward for people who aren’t used to modifying their games, it can be done at a later date.

I don’t want this to get too long and tiresome, so i’m leaving it here for now.

Does anyone Remember the Creature Games?

When I was younger, I would play this game called Creatures 3.

Besides the Norns, there were other creatures; the Ettins and the Grendels. It was part of the Creatures series that involved taking care of an artifical intelligent critters known as Norns.  It was pretty sophisticated for its time and sure the AI for the creatures wasn’t the best but it was still good.

I loved this game as a kid. I would spend hours playing it and I really enjoyed experimenting with the norn breeds, teaching them how to speak and trying to help them survive and be entertained. I managed to play the older versions (Creatures 1 and 2) as well as the spinoff (Creatures Village). But as computers began changing, I eventually wasn’t able to play Creatures anymore. Not many games these days I would play on hours for and I still wish there was more games like Creatures.

When I visted GOG.com though, guess what I found?

That’s right, I found a version of Creatures I could play again! My brother payed for the game and now I have it on my laptop. After so many years, I still enjoy the game and it doesn’t feel much different to what I had originally. I admit that I didn’t expect the new norn breeds but I’m not complaining.

I even made a family tree that I am working on.

As you can see, there’s quite a lot of creatures. >3>

Anyway, I might capture some screenshots if I can of the game and post them on tumblr if I have something good.
