After his talk with Tango, Impulse felt much better. Now that he knew what the problem was, he could deal with it. Well, more accurately, he could bury his feelings and pretend he didn’t have crushes on the other two hippies. Which might not have been the healthiest thing to do, but he couldn’t honestly see any other way that didn’t end up with a broken heart.
Just because Impulse had mostly figured out his feelings didn’t mean all his problems were over and done with, however. He had a truck-load of redstone projects to take care of. Okay, that was a bit of an exaggeration. He still had more than was healthy for him to tackle all at once though.
Instead Impulse decided to work on one redstone project besides what he was doing for the hippies. He’d move on to a new one whenever he finished with his current one. If he got burnt out on the project he was working on, no sweat, he had plenty of others to pass his time with. Plus, he was actually socializing and talking to people, instead of burying himself in his projects like he had done before.
Surprisingly enough, Impulse’s new strategy worked. In fact, it was even relaxing! Maybe not relaxing-relaxing but it was calm and peaceful, and that was enough for Impulse. He had more time with the hippies as well, which was kind of a bonus. It did make it harder for him to hide his newly discovered feelings but he got to be around Grian and Ren. Who seemed a little more clingy as of late which was understandable, considering the fact that Impulse hadn’t been around often, and when he was around he was an all-around mess.
Impulse put the final touches on the last redstone circuit. He’d finished the complicated wiring, at last. When he’d first started this project, he had no idea it would require such detailed workings. Well, he’d done what he’d done, and now he had to deal with the annoying consequences of his emotion filled decision making. Impulse cast his gaze up at the sky, and wordlessly mouthed, Why?
Then Impulse noted how far the sun had traveled in the sky. He hastily took off, heading straight towards his base. If he hurried, he’d have time to drop of the redstone supplies he had on him and exchange them for the ones he needed for the hippie redstone projects. Without being late for Ren’s fireside tales.
As Impulse emptied most of his inventory into his auto-sorter, he faintly registered that he made it to his base much quicker than he did not too long ago. He’d also depleted the rockets he was carrying around. Impulse snorted quietly and amusedly. Grian really was rubbing off on him. It was drawing ever closer to when the hippies would usually gather. Impulse nabbed some extra rockets along with his redstone components. Flying a little faster than normal wouldn’t hurt him, he reasoned.
Not as fast as Grian though, you couldn’t pay Impulse enough to try to go at the same breakneck speeds the blonde did, or perform the death-defying, gravity-denying tricks Grian seemed so fond of. Even watching them gave Impulse a bit of second-hand anxiety. All of the things Grian did were so amazing. He was so amazing.
Impulse didn’t have the time to think of those things, if he didn’t leave soon, he’d be late. And Impulse wouldn’t miss Ren’s performances for the world, no matter what they were, now that Impulse was no longer avoiding his fellow hippies. Even if it was another sappy serenade, one where Ren sang a love song to Grian. With that last thought, Impulse mentally steeled himself to watch Grian and Ren do couple-y things, now that they were an official couple. He shook his head, determined to stay with it for his flight. His elytra was equipped, and he had everything he needed. He couldn’t stall anymore. He jumped up.
After Impulse took to the skies and fired off a couple rockets, all he could think was wow. If this was how Grian always felt when he flew around, Impulse could understand why the blonde was constantly in the sky. The wind felt wonderful against his skin, whipping his clothes and hair around. The ground sped by underneath him. He was nearly high enough to touch the clouds. The chill of it nipped slightly at him, which wouldn’t be a problem for Grian, as he wore that sweater all the time. If he hadn’t already, Ren definitely needed to try this, Impulse mused.
In what seemed to be a blink of an eye, Impulse arrived at the hippie camp. He made sure to slow a considerable amount before landing. He made his way to the campfire. Ren was idly plucking at his guitar strings and Grian was humming along, ducking his head and swaying his shoulders. It was honestly kind of adorable, the both of them.
Ren turned at the sound of Impulse flying in. Ren’s face lit up, and he emphatically waved in Impulse’s direction. Impulse chuckled at the enthusiasm, and strolled over. Ren cleared his throat.
“Alright! Now that the gang’s all here, I’m ready to start! Any song requests?” Ren inquired.
“Can you do… A love song?” Grian asked shyly. A grin spread across Ren’s face.
“Only for you, darling.” Impulse felt a pang in his chest like someone was squeezing his lungs, compacting his heart, turning his organs to mush.
Wait, what? Besides the initial breakdown, loving the two other had never really hurt. There had been a sad, dull ache for a while, but even that had worn off once he started spending time around the hippies again. This tightness, not unlike swallowing dry food, was something entirely new. Impulse did not like it.
Grian moved from where he was poking at the fire with a stick, to sit down right beside Ren, and put his head on Ren’s shoulder. Impulse’s pain started to pulse. There was a pit in his stomach, and a lump in his throat. Then, Ren began to sing.
Sometimes it takes teamwork to get kisses from your unfairly tall demon boyfriend
may i request thee some scardubs and or renscardubs?? i dont see much of ren being included in polycules
I’ll keep this request in mind for sure, but I did just want to let you know I’ve got a pretty good amount of other content if you’re on the market for ren polycules! it might be hard to find cus i usually dont tag ccs/characters directly on my shippy posts but feel free to gander at my ship tags!
Speaking of Grenpulse, really excited to see part 5 (I think it's 5?) of that Grenpulse fic. Can't wait for it to come out. How many chapters do you think it'll have?
We’re on chapter six actually. i think i messed something up somewhere, though. i don’t know how many chapters it’ll have. at one point the chapters were longer, but i noticed people were more receptive to short chapters. not everyone wants to jump straight into a thousand word chapter.
i do have a basic frame of what a want to happen, which is so basic it is just gren gets together, impulse talks to tango, grenpulse gets together.
I’m working on the newest chapter right now, so it shouldn’t be too long. i got a pretty solid feel for what i want
I *just* read chapter 5 of the grenpulse fic and AAAAAAAA it's so good! I can't wait for part 6!
:D Thanks! I actually have pretty much an entire chapter waiting, but it’s not the next chapter chronologically. Finally, other characters. If I don’t fall behind on my other fics/homework, the next chapter shouldn’t be too long away.
