@louwhose you made me write this, so you get tagged :P
Just wanted to write a little introspective piece for my favorite episode of Dwight in Shining Armor. Season 3 Episode 4, "Mirabel". (Also no I did not rewatch the episode before writing this so if something seems off, now you know why lol)

Princess Gretta has waited one thousand years for this day to arrive.
Her royal coming of age ball—it’s been talked about before she could even talk herself. It’s been planned and thwarted and ultimately postponed, time and time again. Why, it’s been pushed back so far, it’s even outlasted the kingdom of Rogomore itself, and has now been scheduled in another era entirely.
But even then, Princess Gretta does not get her day.
She’s waited one thousand years for this. But someone else has been waiting for one thousand years too.
Mirabel is miserable. She feels cheated and wronged, and she’s been nourishing her resentment for ages. Centuries upon centuries, all alone, with no one to confide in. No one to acknowledge her. No one to treat her like she’s special, even when the princess who stole everything from her had already vanished from the world.
By all rights, Gretta should feel bitter in return. Her ball is in ruins. Her plans are foiled. Countless hours of effort have been utterly wasted. It seems, even after all this time, she cannot rid herself of the curse.
But all she feels is pity swelling in her heart.
She gives it all up. The ball is no longer her own. Dwight is no longer her date. And Princess Gretta, the star of the celebration, is now reduced to a mere attendant.
Mirabel finally gets her day. She finally feels seen. She finally feels loved.
Gretta can see it all as she watches from afar. The smiles. The laughs. It was wise of her to entrust the girl to Dwight. He knows how to show her a good time. A magical time. An unforgettable experience, to make the one thousand year wait worth it.
The princess musters a smile. There’s a lot to mourn here. Her kingdom lies in ruins. She’s been displaced in time. And even when the world comes together to offer something that is rightfully hers, she is asked to give it up for another’s sake.
But Gretta doesn’t merely see the ill. There is good present too.
So, so much good.
There’s a boy who looks at her like he never wants to look at anything else.
And there’s a man who loves her like only a father could.
And when Gretta realizes this, she thinks, perhaps, that she doesn’t need a special day.
Because the people in her life make every day feel special enough.
