Brick is okay

We haven't had a chance to get a cement block yet, but Lydia's fascination with a brick seems to be good indicator of her interest in exploring the concept.

Mercury has escaped onto the front porch TWICE in the past few days after demonstrating a renewed interest in the world outside our house.

In an attempt to appease his curiosity, we got him a little cat harness, collar, and lead, so now he can have supervised exploration time in our backyard. His reaction to his first outing:

Had to chew any grass he came across

Got a big puffy tail when the dog behind the next door neighbour’s (solid wood) fence barked once

Did not care how windy it was until the wind made big scary sounds we’ve never heard before

As soon as he was back in the house, he was already whining to go out again; three additional short excursions did not sate his lust for the outdoors

Did NOT like having mom check him for stow-away ticks once he was back inside; very rude, felt violated by her concern

We will try incorporating a bit of supervised time outside each day so he can get used to the sights, sounds, and smells. I also got a tie-off lead that we can install once he’s more comfortable, only for use while supervised in our enclosed backyard. Hopefully this will tide him over until we get the catio installed!
