“what does a creator owe their creation”

the Gods would say everything. They brought this boy back with little preparation or structure and yet, he’s the manifestation of Their perfect pet. They would give him anything he asked for, if he would only allow himself to ask.

grim doesn’t like this question. he isn’t owed anything but the knowledge to be his best. he was reborn for a purpose, given a job with somewhat clear expectations. anything outside of that would be selfish of him to crave.

the Priests would probably say mercy and pleasure if grim was out of earshot. they love their creator, but even the Priests have learned when to leave the hound alone. they all learned to hard way how bad of an idea it is to get caught in grim’s line of sight when he’s feeling particularly snappy.

i think the idea of the Gods teaching grim how to resurrect a priest would be sweet. They don’t need priests, frankly they kind of hate the idea of them bustling around their church making a bigger mess than needed. But They worry about Their pet being alone in the woods when no one can visit, so they tolerate it enough. Not that They think he’ll run away, he’s too house bound for that, but They do worry he’ll spiral. They know he didn’t come back all the way right, no one would given the pantheon he was born into, but there’s a special type of madness in grim the Gods haven’t seen in a grim before.

When grim made his first priest, the Gods practically threw a party, each of them filling with pride over his success but the joy in the room knowing their pet had a companion now was electrifying. At least it was, until a few days later when grim came back to confess he accidentally killed the priest again and would need to start over.

anyways, current storyline means grim has 4-5 priests rotating his church. he keeps it at 2-3 priests coming in at a time, preferring the quieter days with minimal interactions when he can get them.

god wise, he has 4 who frequently visit for their inspection days and 1 who hasn’t visited in years but grim continues to clean his altar in hopes of being inspected again soon he’ll never admit it but he does miss this god a particular amount

Just because i think it would be silly, I spent a big chunk of today imagining Grim as a blue heeler. The idea of him being a working dog does make sense but I think he’s more of a livestock dog than a cattle dog. He has the bite and the bark, but he’d rather stay close and protect those in his yard.

the first time the Gods asked grim for an offering, he didn’t really understand what they wanted. he can’t leave the cemetery, the woods behind the church are his but he his leash only goes as far as the tree line. They’re patient enough, knowing their pet isn’t always the most creative on his own, but with clear instruction They know he’ll perform well.

it isn’t long before the first break in, when some teenager got a little too reckless in the chapel, carving idiocies into one of the pews. grim watched, quietly sitting in the shadows of the neighboring pew, listening carefully as the Gods quietly whispered the steps for preparing their communal wine.

luckily, the boy is curious. it doesn’t take much noise to lure him downstairs, likely expecting to see a ghost. once he’s two steps in, one little shove from grim is all takes to have him ready for collection (though he did waste a lot of it. first time?)
