March to Camelot 2026: #2 Heir
I'm continuing with these, but I'm very much behind and none of the pictures I've done are particularly 'finished'. I'm just sketching... Number 4 is currently in the works; I still have to start on 5 and 6. The set palettes are a real struggle - I feel like I don't know how to use them and am just slapping colours on without understanding why.
Anyway: have an Arthur, with his heir Gawain (and his heir's faithful horse Gringolet, of course!).
Artists and authors will take their Arthurian retellings in all manner of directions. They may choose to stay close to the sources, or they may go as far as they possibly can with the concepts, taking them all the way to the stars (or in the case of Knightriders, America).
But one thing, one essential truth about these legends that cannot, nay, must not be altered, no matter where you take them, is this:
Gawain fucking loves his horse. He and Gringolet are buddies, pals, amigos. They will go through Hell and back together. They fight and kick dragons in the face together. Lancelot will ride his horses to death to the point that every time he now visits a stables the horses mysteriously disappear and he will either come upon a field of strangely equine-looking sheep or cows, or find the stables populated by men with comically large moustaches wearing trenchcoats and sunglasses who are trying to look casual while attempting to read their broadsheet newspapers with just their hooves, but Gawain will always have his Gringolet, and Gringolet will always have his Gawain.

Sketch "Sir Gawain and Gringolet"
The cover page for a new sketchbook I'm starting.
Earlier this month I was on a mini creative retreat with friends to set goals, get inspired and create art/write during the trip. I started this page on the last day of the retreat and finished drawing/coloring it during a livestream (which can still be viewed for another week on Twitch). With its completion I officially achieved all my goals from the trip! It's also the first piece I've finished from sketching to coloring stage this year, so I'm very proud of that ;-; 💙
Before the end of the month I'll be posting some process photos and more about the trip on my Patreon. Feel free to follow or subscribe!
