you know, one of the things I loved about HIMYM is how in most shows it’s always the people who have a moment in the 1st ep who end up together and they had turned that on it’s head. OH JUST KIDDING THEY DID THE SAME SHIT LULZ

I KNOW, RIGHT? And that was like, one of the MANY reasons why I thought this show was so clever and I got so invested in it. 

It almost feels, re-watching the finale, like they were writing, and WANTED to go  for the heartbreaking ending, but chickened out at the last minute because it didn't feel sitcom-ish enough. 

And then I go LOL wait that's totally not the case at all because THEY'VE HAD THIS IN THE CAN FOR SIX YEARS, LET ME JUST PUT MY HEAD THROUGH THIS DESK HERE.

I think I have nostalgia goggles on, but I enjoyed the FRIENDS finale more. This one was just not good. The terrible thing (one of many) is that apparently they had this ending planned for years (since the kids scene @ the end was filmed years ago.

YES THAT'S THE THING OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS ENDING HAS BEEN IN THE CAN FOR YEARS. LIKE WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT OF THE LAST NINE SEASONS.

I’m a casual viewer, but this miffs me. How did Lily & Marshall fair in the end? *besides older!Marshall going bald*

Meh, they were just sort of .... there? They wind up with three kids, and older!Marshall winds up becoming a state Supreme Court judge. They don't really say which way Lily's career went after their year in Italy ... which also bothers me, because Lily said all along she didn't "just" want to be a wife and a mother. I'm unhappy about where they left every single character except maybe Barney.
