I finally rallied and got my sister and best friend to go bridesmaids dress shopping...and can I just say...SO MUCH LESS STRESSFUL THAN SHOPPING FOR MYSELF. Like seriously, we were in David’s Bridal for 2 hours and came out with the dress, the color, and possible shoe options.
Here’s the story:
All I knew, prior to walking in, is that I wanted to find them something comfortable. My party is a cluster fuck of beautiful body types, and I wanted to be sure that everyone would feel relaxed yet elegant (since that seems to be my overall theme). My sister suggested long dresses because that says elegant, and as far as tops I had a slew of decisions.
I will say that I did my style research before going in. I always do my research before going to any store BECAUSE THAT’S HOW A GOOD PERSON WORKS.
So my 3-month pregnant friend and my sister start looking through dresses, and I sat down with the stylist to discuss my ideas. Tragically, they didn’t have slate blue, which was the color I was going to go with. I didn’t want to go with something I hadn’t seen, so I went off of what they had available.
We started with a few of the styles I had picked out, and let’s just say...no. It was either uncomfortable, or too much boob, or too weird in the body shape, ya know, the usual.
Then we started looking at high neck dresses on a whim, and shocker...they actually looked really good. 20 minutes and 3 styles later, we had found the one...

First of all, the comfort factor: 10/10! Mesh is so forgiving and comfortable, so no one will be dying of heatstroke on the big day.
Next, it’s got great boob coverage, so mine can be the shining stars on the big day. But it’s also got this sexy little thing with the leg slit so everyone can still feel like they look good. They didn’t have one in the size we needed for my sister or friend to try on, so I struggled my way into a size 6 (thank you weight watchers!). Viola! Sexy yet elegant and oh so comfortable!
It was a little tight, the slit isn’t supposed to be bunched like that but you get the picture! That’s one of our official accent colors now! It’s the steel blue option, which, although it’s a Spring wedding, I think will really pop! Our whole venue, as you know, is very light, bright, and airy, so I think a darker shade will stand out more than like..blush. We don’t need the bridesmaids blending in with the scenery!
For shoes, because we were already discussing while standing there, I’m thinking either low light grey (since the boys will be in grey) or nude, because I like the way my sandal looked with it. I’m leaning towards the grey, but we shall see.
This seems like such an anti-climactic ending lol. I showed the dress to all the girls, everyone loves it. I’m planning to do a set of drop earrings as one of their bridal gifts, and we won’t need necklaces so..win for me and my budget.
That’s it, that’s my latest update! I need to get my finances in order because the save the dates need to go out and DJ needs to be booked... let me know what you guys think of the dresses! Our next stop is getting Yonce fitted for and thinking about his suit colors.
Wait, little thing: So we’re getting married in a barn right? What says barn more than suspenders? This whole time I’ve been under the illusion that we were doing those...but after a discussion, last night...not so much. Yonce was like I want them in vests and I’ll be in a full suit! GAG..I literally hate vests. Like...just wear a long sleeve shirt or a tank top. So that was a little argument.
I feel like I ask him for his opinion for wedding stuff ALL THE TIME and he doesn’t have one about like anything. Then I feel bad because the one thing he does have an opinion on, I don’t like. Also, he doesn’t like suspenders, so that’s out the window.
You know what, I’m not even stressed. He hasn’t even asked his party yet, and mine is done and fully dressed. We’ll work it out, there are still some major steps that have to be taken before we can get as far as suspenders vs. vest.
Now I’m just talking to myself :)
What do you guys think? Vests or suspenders? Should I feel bad? I just don’t want them to look tacky!
