Some Glimpses from Germany for your Weekend :)
The Grottensaal has now been transformed into a Christmas room. Decorated with nine Christmas trees, it is a reminder of the Christmas celebrations that Wilhelm II celebrated here with his family from 1889 to 1917. One tree each was erected for Emperor Wilhelm II and Empress Auguste Victoria, as well as one Christmas tree for each of Wilhelm II's seven children, staggered in size according to the age of the emperor's children. This custom goes back to the idea of Empress Auguste Victoria!
Grottensaal - Neues Palais im Schlosspark Sanssouci, Potsdam
Today I was in the parks of Schloss Sanssouci with my mom and she decided that she wanted to show me something in the New Palais. This something was the ‘Grottensaal’ or ‘Muschelsaal’ and... you don’t understand how awestruck I was by this room. It’s like you step away from the outside world and suddenly find yourself in the ballroom of a mermaid’s castle. My mermaid loving heart almost flipped! (#aesthetic!)
There are shells everywhere! Everything is decorated with them. They created sea monsters and beautiful patterns! And when it isn’t shells it’s gems and precious stones! And the floor! And the ceiling! And just this entire room! <3
(There are awesome mer-children sculptures too. And when we were there the room was much darker than on the pics, which only added to the otherworldy atmosphere of this beautiful, beautiful room.)
Disclaimer: These aren’t my pictures. I wasn’t allowed to take any but I had to show you this amazing room so I googled for pics and found them on different news or museum sites. All links to the pictures are in this post. I also encourage you to google for more information. It’s absolutely amazing.
