We posted a photographic montage of Jan “Beekeeper” McEwen’s early winter traverse of Section O this past December 13th. She was back on that stretch of the PCT from May 4 - 8th and submitted these photos. Thru hikers are doomed to hike this section during peak summer heat. When you are feeling overwhelmed by the temperature, past wildflower season, struggling to locate adequate water, and dancing around poison oak, it is hard to appreciate the magic of Section O. That is one of the many advantages of section hiking the PCT . . . as Jan’s images attest. Water, wildflowers, wildlife, and wonderful wiews (OK . . . views . . . I couldn’t sustain the alliteration).
Check out Jan’s new Facebook page for PCT section hikers or her blog for more photos and hike details: https://jansjaunts.wordpress.com/2015/05/08/pct-ca-section-o/
The snow-capped mountain in the photos is Mt. Shasta, the unique plants are groundcones (a parasitic plant that taps into the root system of its host), and the river pictures is the spectacularly beautiful Squaw Creek.
