This week we’re going back, way back to a more simpler time. A time where entertainment came from the self, not moving pictures. A time where distractions weren't abundant with every swipe on a screen. A time where...ok I’m sounding like a bad episode on the history channel. You’re going to have a night free of technology. That's the idea.
“But wait!” I hear you say. “What are we going to do without technology?” Good news dear reader, this is your chance to bring out your creative side! And it just so happens to be a pretty great date idea too. But what do I mean when i say ‘tech free’? Well simply put, if it needs to be plugged in or runs on a battery, it’s off limits. That means no tv, no phones, and even no lights. What I recommended to those who are going to try this idea out is plan ahead. Designate a time to cut all technology off. For simplicity, let's say 5pm is lights out for the whole night until you wake up again (making it last all night makes things way more fun in my opinion). You’ll need to prepare with snacks to eat, or even full blown meals that don't require any form of electricity, as well as candles or flashlights. Want icing on the cake? Have a radio too, and listen to music the way it used to be listened to.
So you're all prepared for your night in, but what is there to do? Well, ultimately do whatever your heart desires! Ok, fine I’ll give you some ideas. Board games are going to be your best friend friend for this date idea. Speaking of friends, bring some along with you! You can easily make this into a group date, with teams going against each other. You also can't forget the classic game charades! It's actually really unique playing while lit by candlelight. I would make ridiculous categories to go with it too. Not a charades kind of person? No worries! There are a ton of great games out there. Prepare beforehand with a bunch of different games, and throw in some really wacky ones too. Get some paper out and play Pictionary, or have a couple drinks while playing cards against humanity. As long as you’re not using technology, its fair game. The question is, can you survive without looking at your phone for a whole night.
And that's the blast from the past date idea. I didn't give too many examples of things for you to do, because I want you to release your inner creativity! I believe in you, and I know you’ll have a blast coming up with really fun things to do. So make a list, get prepared, and turn those phones off. Are you up to the challenge?
Remember, make every date a story.
