It was one of those nights, when others were already out, seeing movies, drinking and going out to sing karaoke. When he was all alone and she would visit spending time together eating and talking. It was a normal occurrence, it happened all the time. It was like clockwork, as soon as the last person left she would pop in asking if the cast was clear, food in hand. They would sit on the couch, complain about life, discuss the news and tell stories about their day. As soon as the first person called saying they were heading how they would clean up and he would walk her home. They would crack jokes and laugh all the way to her door in the night air. This night was different. For without warning, at her doorstep their bodies moved without warning, it was only a short kiss but it left both of them speechless for more than a couple of minutes. When she got the courage to say good night and he was brave enough to let go, their night ended. Usually, when he got back he would explain in a smooth way, that he was out walking alone wanting to see the city at night, that he was at a bar alone sitting drinking watching soccer, that he had watched a movie alone sitting on the couch laughing through out the whole thing. This time he said nothing, he nodded at those on the couch and on the floor, talking and left Saying only that he was tired and wanted sleep. Leaving the others confused. She didn't keep her silence, as soon as her roommates asked, she blurted out the truth. As if saying it out loud would make her believe it, as if their reactions would bring her back to life, back to earth. It wasn't a dream. He friends excited and nosy spent the next hour and a half asking her questions. She had no answers, Were they real? Was she just imagining things? Did he feel the same way she did? He lay in his bed, unable to move or to close his eyes, every time he saw the back of his eyelids that moment replayed like a silent movie. He was unsure what to do, how to act the next time he saw her, how to move, what to do. He pounded his fist against his bed in frustration and cursed those in the next rooms, fast asleep. The next day the two moved around each other as if even the slightest touch would ignite their skin like paper to a flame. They avoided each others gaze as if the spark when the two meet would electrocute them all. It was painful for both, every time the other's name was mentioned they fought a blush that creeped up on them. Finally, his friend was fed up he took him by the arm and questioned him underneath a bright light (if only for dramatic effect). He spilled everything, relieved to let it all go, his friend looked at him in disbelief, pushed him out of the closet the two were in and told him that nothing would happen if he did nothing but stumble around her like an idiot. He however, did nothing for as smooth as he was with girls, he was no match for her. His best friend, who knew all of his tricks & secrets and he knew all of hers. He knew that even though she acted like a diva around others that really she was a shy girl with insecurities like anyone else. He knew that his body didn't act right around her that his mind didn't work properly either. His words, flowing and cool became stuttered-filled and clumsy. He couldn't help it, every time she laughed, smiled, moved, breathed he fell in deeper. What he didn't see was that she was the exact same way, every time he talked, fixed his jacket or laughed awkwardly she fell in deeper and deeper. Their friends looked at them hopelessly and sighed, they could see that the two were out of their comfort zone. So they all left and the two were alone again. The looked around and realized what was going on and tried with to success to avoid the subject, hoping that with in time their friend would return. It kept going like that till she finally broke down and a river of emotion and passion rushed in. Their friends waited outside, listening in, only hearing muffled voices, holding their breath until they couldn't wait anymore and busted in shouting, asking if the two of them were finally, really together yet. The reply were two smiles and lots of giggling. Everyone cheered and complained telling them it was about time, they could all see it as bright as day, they knew he wasn't out alone that she wasn't just visiting a friends. It was that time again, however the routine had changed, she didn't wait till the others left. Instead she walked in said hello and sat down next to him, smiling happy.
