I "lifted" this Japanese acer from the ground about nine years ago. It was growing beneath its mother tree in an ugly park, and I thought it might want to be somewhere more pleasant, so I gently pulled it out of the ground and put it in my pocket. I was not arrested, but my Polish gardener friend was thoroughly amused. She and I wondered if it might die before making it back to Corte Eremo, but it didn't. After a few years in my Hortus Horrei, it made its way to La Macchina Fissa where it is starting to take shape. Maybe in 50 years it will be as big as its Mamma. Look after it for me if I'm not still puttering around plants at 102. 😂 My memory for names is shit, but I remember people, places and plants quite well, especially ones like this free souvenir from April of 2013. Blogging or even Instagramming helps keep track of how things grow. I know it might seem sad compared to a proper garden journal of yesteryear, but Google and Tumblr helps me find stuff faster than searching through thousands of images and millions of words. Thank you, Tumblr. Here's that little baby tree eight years ago.
