wait I was just looking through the grump sitcom tag - if season 4 is all angsty with Dan's commitment issues arc, and that's the season Brian makes his first on-screen appearance after only having been referenced by name (and maybe by deed?) - like - did someone CALL Brian to help set Dan straight, or did Dan call Brian, or is Brian slightly psychic and appeared to kick Dan's ass with the help of his old karate students?..I like the idea of Brian having an army on hand, Dan asskicking or not.

oh geez I haven’t thought about this au in a while. uhhhh I would assume someone either called him or Brian, since he is Brian, just showed up because he just knew that some shit was afoot.

okay okay okay consider:

Brian is that one character that you always hear about but never see for like the first two or three seasons and he’s like Dan’s friend that lives somewhere else and lowkey everyone is like “does he even really exist we’re not sure.”

but then like season four comes along and all of a sudden BAM Brian shows up like yooooo and everyone is like OH SHIT HE’S REAL

More stupid sitcom headcanons:

-lowkey thinking that Barry and Holly should be Pals and also roommates

-Ross coming over to annoy Barry but ending up meeting Holly and just being FLOORED with how cool and radical she is

-the Ross and Holly arc giving way to a Dan and Holly arc by the end of season two

-season three encompassing Ross’s “redemption” arc where he’s no longer the Shitty Neighbor and is really just “Holly’s pal that sometimes is a little sadistic”

-the Generic Love Triangle between Arin, Barry, and Suzy that actually just ends in a happy poly relationship instead of nine seasons of drama

-Holly and Barry trying to give each other relationship advice but??? neither of them are good at it???

-Cool Neighbor Dan turning into an absolute puddle around Holly because she’s so rad and he has the biggest crush

-Ross and Dan having a rivalry in general because Dan is Too Cool to be phased by Ross’s shit but Ross is really pushing that patience

-the generic sitcom Christmas episode where they’re all stranded in the apartment complex for whatever reasons while the rest of the building is almost totally empty and ending up spending the whole thing together because they might as well

hehe I feel like it’d be more likely for him to move in with Suzy and/or Arin since Holly probably wouldn’t wanna live with all of them. but they would TOTALLY move in together in some regard~

Can i hear more about this sitcom

I just saw a post someone made saying that one of the grump photoshoot pictures looked like a generic sitcom with Barry as the main character and I rolled with it in my tags. Apparently @devilgate-drive and @sweetiefiend seemed to like it and it kinda became a lil thing haha. It’s not very developed at all so you haven’t missed much of anything~

Brian could also be like the janitor in scrubs. kinda sadistic and all the fans think he's a figment of Danny's imagination for like the first 2 seasons.

I haven’t seen scrubs but yeah I think that’s kinda what I was thinking when I made the post~ everyone is like “Danny talks about this guy all the time but we’ve never SEEN him so he’s probably not even a real person” until he shows up one episode for like a big reveal or whatever
