wangxian fic recs: wip edition

@queenofattolia in addition to love, in fire and blood, which i’ve already recced, i am following these wips with avid interest. and most of them are quite long! yay! starting wips is always a risk but i’m enjoying reading stories in this fandom in real time. i’ve specified if the stories are untamed-based or mdzs novel-based so you can save the novel ones until you’re done with it.

An Arrow Through Time  Canon-compliant AU (MDZS novel) In which Lan Wangji passes out after leaving the QishanWen archery competition only to wake up an indeterminate time in the future with a beautiful, infuriating, very naked stranger in his bed. It goes about as well as expected. 

this one is hysterically funny to the point of absurdity at points, and i love teenage-angst-lan-wangji in big-grown-man-lan-wangji’s body to itty bitty bits

below the clouds, above the lakes  AU Space/Politics (The Untamed) Wei Ying was not formally considered a Jiang until it became necessary for a Jiang to marry a Lan as a guarantee of alliance. Now, in the habitat dome which houses the palace known as the Cloud Recesses, he has to navigate a new role, a new marriage, and an unfamiliar tangle of political relationships and loyalties.

the worldbuilding is intriguing. this was a one-shot that is now 2 chapters and the author hints at more to come

Wei Wuxian asked, looking around curiously, as if he expected a procession of painted beauties to appear at any second. None did. The Prince’s face remained expressionless. "There are no others." - In which Wei Wuxian, formerly known as the Yiling Patriarch and founder of the Demonic Path, needs to lie low for a while and finds himself gifted to the Second Jade of Lan. 

i love this fic so much it makes me squeal in delight and mortification every chapter. the characterizations are so perfect here i scream

Kingfisher Feathers  AU ABO sort-of-canon Xianxia Royalty (The Untamed) Lan Wangji goes into a fevered rut and accidentally bonds with Wei Wuxian. When they next meet, he remembers none of it, and Wei Wuxian is determined to keep the bond a secret—even when he's sent to the Cloud Recesses to be a consort in Lan Wangji's harem. (tl;dr concubine!wwx is already married to emperor!lwj, who has no idea. drama ensues.) 

i have a hard time with abo fic generally because there’s so much dubcon and sometimes the creative biology squicks me out, but this really works. it has our heroes mated/bonded but no one except wei wuxian knows it. it’s romantic and heart-wrenching and the characterizations of everyone are spot on.

true gold fears no fire  AU Ancient China Royalty (The Untamed) Lan Wangji encounters a mysterious stranger on his rooftop. Alternatively, the Emperor of China has heard rumours of an intruder sneaking into the Forbidden City, a shadow that has eluded the best of his guards. (Alternatively, Wei Ying just really wanted a drink.)

i love the slow unfurling of their relationship here. i love them eating lunch in closets.
