One of the few times I think Goliath puts MUCH TOO MUCH faith in the power of love. Omg. "Stay with me and keep trusting me and you can't go wrong" which totally ignores the ways he never fully addressed her concerns and fears and discontents along the way. If he had really worked with her and listened to her and shown her he would trust her wisdom too, she probably would have been less likely to go behind your back sir.
But what I can't get over her is his need to touch her as much as possible, trying to recapture for a moment that love he once add. Heartbreaking!!
it is honestly WILD to me that Owen doesn't join the party. I suppose he has to give Fox some chance on her own to function as Xanatos's partner, and it would only be habit by now for Xanatos to lean on Owen if he were around. Good on him. Haha. It's hilarious to me that, without even thinking, Xanatos's poor fisherman father just runs right into the fray. He has no clue what's going on, but his son appears to be walking into danger, and as much as he doesn't like the boy, it's his son!
Between Demona's 'you may have prevented me from changing the past' and this little daydream of them in the future (present/Clocktower) together, I'm suddenly less sure about Goliath's speech to her younger self being an attempt to stop the massacre and instead an attempt to soften her over time, that they could be in this new future together. It doesn't HAVE to be that way, but it's kind of a yiiiiikes moment for me. Like the heartbreak is great, and I don't know how they could have done this otherwise without it coming off as just flashing back again to their vow scene, but it sits wrong with me XD. Lovely visuals though!
Goliath being able to mope in stone form is top tier Ahaha. Like, Elisa isn't wrong here, but no one can't tell me some of it isn't about 'you're going to go to your nemesis wedding so you can see your ex who has tried to kill both of us? Recently?!?!' XD Who can really blame her haha
Yeah see, this is going to haunt young Demona's nightmare for years! But again, I can't blame future Demona for trying! At least not yet... XD
And of course he has. Even If we can be convinced that this is just him trying to bring her back into her community, it represents something to him. I don't think it's even about the vows or the ceremony. It was Demona who instigated that, something that's not even a gargoyle tradition (once again seeing Demona's impulse to be more human-like than other gargoyles), but it meant something to someone he loved. He made a promise. He was always going to keep that promise.
And god that smile is so painful, like he's actually allowing himself, for a moment, to sit with those memories and think on them fondly rather than with pain. Ooof
You know, I actually understand Goliath's thinking here. One might look at this and think he's trying to save her of a great burden. If she truly was able to follow this advice of his, after everything she just saw, then he's probably right. If she hadn't plotted with Robert, there was a very good chance the massacre never would have happened. This is his own way of trying to stop what is to come, and I appreciate that he's making the attempt with perhaps the one person most able to stop it.
After seeing herself as she was, if she sat and dreaded this future from here on out, lingered on it, of course her worry and dread would weigh her down and warp her mind. Demona is who she is afterall. At her heart, there is a tendency towards anger and fighting her way out of her worries.
I don't think it's a GREAT effort. Honestly at this point, Hudson would probably be his best bet for having anything lasting.
Narratively I don't love the implications here either though, that future Demona might have actually pushed herself toward the outcome that awaits by instilling a seed paranoid zealousness in her, but it certainly gives Goliath a sort of excuse. I think he can see the ways this interference may have made things worse, so perhaps he shouldn't try. I don't hate it. They did manage to address all the major routes to go for this by and large as I can think of them.
