I can’t decide if this two hundred pages longer than it needs to be, or if it perfectly recreates the feeling of watching a supernatural thriller from the late sixties or seventies. It’s equal parts frustrating and addictive to read; the paranoia-inducing web of characters exaggerated but believable—not so outlandish to be unreal, as if they were actors with little talent but a genuine dedication to the roles they’re playing.
