Hi! Do you know what happened to the revision pages for JFA and T&T?
Hi! Sorry to keep you. My schedule has been pretty off-kilter lately and I nearly missed this.
If you're looking for the dialogue changes I noted for the trilogy, they are still all here:
Part 1 - PWAA
Part 2 - JFA
Part 3 - T&T
I'll see if I can change the links on the original posts because they may be broken since my initial move from the original gsvsaa blog name.
Guys, let me know what other broken links may be around! It's been a while so I don't remember if I got to everything.
Edit: I've just gone back to the master post and changed all the links so they should work now. What a trip down memory lane. (I'm never gonna finish any of these "series" I had, am I?)
Christ, I have way too many links on the individual posts too while editing them that tumblr ran into loading errors like I'm being bit-rate limited or something? I don't take any chance I get to complain about this site, but it hits hard whenever I do run into problems.
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is now out!
Hahaha, I'm so loaded with work as is. orz
We'll see what I can do for this blog, but because I won't be buying the collection (for now, I hate it here), I'm gonna have to rely on some help to gather up names, places, and all the other miscellaneous details. Anyone, feel free to pitch in!
Though the GSvsAA Project is still officially on hiatus, I will be opening the inbox to questions relating to these games or the series in general, especially if you guys have any regarding Japanese translations and cultural questions (to a certain extent, like I've studied Japanese history in uni, but I'm not a tourism board here, lol).
If there are enough questions, I may organize them with a master post. I need to update my actual master post too...
Welcome back! I like coming back to your reblogs to view the dialogue differences with the JP/EN scripts. Are you gonna be doing the same for the JP/EN scripts of AAIC (particularly for AAI2?) Would you consider doing comparisons with the fan-translation since that was all we had to go off of for EN audiences of AAI2?
Thanks, glad my stuff can be helpful!
As for this blog's main project, it's still on hiatus. I'm not sure if I'll have the time to work on the comparisons these days given my erratic schedule now that I'm vying to be a professional writer. Also of note, since tumblr changed their site format a few years back, it would be a nightmare to reformat the game scripts I have to something tumblr would like. So I intend to port my stuff over to my own blogspot site, though it's still in the works. I can't say for sure when it'll be up, but I don't plan to abandon it forever. Rest assured, none of what I have here will ever be deleted even if I do export them.
Though, I'm sorry to say that I probably won't be doing the same for the fan translation for GK2, as I am very dependent on complete game script rips to review through the games. The guy who I got my sources from doesn't have them for the fan translation, but I can ask him if he'll do the same for AAI2 when it comes out.
As for nowadays, well, I've been logging updates on my other blog @rubiaryutheroyal where I have been busy with a massive FF7 fanfic that has taken me the last two years to write and I swear I'll finish it by next year. At this rate, I may hit a million words before the end of this one.
And then when all that's done, I can actually focus on building my own blog with my own rules and formats. And hopefully with images! I wish I figured out earlier how to upload screenshots like how I wanted to do with TGAAC.
Oh God I forgot it was Apollo Justice's 15th Anniversary + blog updates
So, uh... hey, guys. Sorry for the delays. I just remembered I had some cool stuff to share and today seems like a good enough day to drop by again.
Everyone knows I have only the most impeccable timing by being absent when I need to be.
Jokes aside, it's kinda awkward of an update post this time because I bring both good news and bad news.
The bad news is: I hate this site and how it sucks when I or anyone looking at my blog wants to find old archive posts. I hate this site even more now that they've changed the formatting and suddenly I can't just copy paste from the text files I've been using for this blog's project.
So I wanna move, but my blogspot site hasn't been updated in a couple years by now. I still need to figure out how I'm gonna port over this entire blog's archives, so my apologies that I don't have any particular updates on this, despite already having the next part ready. God, I hate tumblr.
BUT the good news is: I've updated my Patreon Page. I've decided to take off the translation commissions since not many people would be coming to me for bulk translations and stuff anyway, and definitely not for $3-5 a post. Instead, I want to experiment with writing commissions. I have an original story in the works, inspired by my childhood imagination, where I plan to make it a fan collaboration as well. If people are willing to donate, I will reserve special rights to ya'll to help contribute to this story.
I'm still putting things together atm, but the brief plot synopsis is thus:
A pair of Japanese international students arrive to meet their host living in a small town near San Francisco and will be staying with her for the entirety of their university stay. However, their simple introduction to American life is cut short when a puzzling series of paranormal murders take place wherever they go. As it turns out, their host is a specialized Arbiter of Death - one who judges the most dangerous, corrupted souls of the recently deceased - and this is business as usual for her. However, not everything seems to be going as it should in the Underworld. And to top it all off, she has to be caretaker for a family of primordial Godlike alien dogs who bring her no end of frustrations.
Aside from the main cast, some key plot points, and major themes being set in stone already, the rest of the story is open to readers to decide what direction it may take, what mysteries may develop over its course, and what characters, settings, and other concepts will appear. Please understand, though, that I won't be taking requests to put official or copyrighted content from real franchises, so don't ask for a Batman-meets-Phoenix-Wright crossover or anything. I'm technically making money off of this and I don't want to be sued.
I will be posting the prologue chapter to this on my AO3 shortly. Chapter 1 is in the works and isn't open to requests, but we'll see for later chapters.
In the meantime, I will try to update my blogspot site to get it ready, so I can return to my main project.
Oh, and before I forget again: Happy 15th Anniversary, Apollo Justice.
Hello! I just wanted to introduce myself as a disciple of yours... by which I mean I had the same idea as you almost a decade after you did. I'm super late to the game but I've been poking around your blog and Court Records and have just been glad to see that there are others who are invested in AA fan translation... so thanks for all your hard work. I've been making un-localized objection.lols over at @turnabout-trial, which is fun but exhausting. Would love for you to check it out :)
Hello! Sorry I've taken this long to respond, but I'm glad to have more people get involved with fan translation of these games, whether or not they've been localized already. Anyone still following me and actually keeping up with me, go follow @percydew and @turnabout-trial if you haven't already! They provide a lot of good stuff and explain Japanese linguistic and cultural concepts in depth as well. And to top it off, they present it better than I do, lol.
When I started this project a long time ago, I didn't think it would be such a big thing, so I never quite got into the habit of screenshotting anything. In hindsight, I should have done it more. It really goes a long way and better sets the context than I can describe in text.
Back in those days, my laptop was already a year or so old and now it's... Baby Jesus Christ, have I really been going at GSvsAA for over 7 years now? Now I feel like Hobohodo. The only thing I'm missing is a friend who can make spy cameras for me.
Jokes aside, if you ever need my help with that stuff, just hmu. I'm also on discord as @ryubiagagotoku#9211 if you need me. I have notifications turned on for that, so I'd actually be able to get back to you ASAP.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Is Better Than I Expected and I Already Expected Greatness
I got the Switch version and it blew my effin' mind seeing Asogi talk to me about rotating joysticks. (Yes, I know the 3DS also had a rotating joystick, but only one, and it's honestly a bit stiff compared to the Switch.) My, how far we've come.
AND THE VOICE ACTING IS PHENOMENAL, I CANNOT GET OVER THIS. Tired myself out voicing every character, though, lol. As always, this game isn't fully voice acted, but the moments where they are, are SPOT ON.
Ahem. As promised in my previous post, I will go ahead and explore localization differences with DGS vs TGAA, but due to spoilers, I'll be hosting them on my game react blog @rubiaryuplays. Please be warned that there will be HEAVY spoilers. I hide none of my reactions there and the last I updated that blog was the last time I finished DGS2 a few months ago. Also, since it's not quite as organized as this blog, the entries are going to be a little more chaotic.
Since I don't have the complete scripts of these games - and even when I do get them, I will NOT be sharing them with anyone until a few months down the line - I will only be going through some things I notice at first glance. Since this is technically my second (third, really) playthrough of the games, I'll deliberately skip unneeded dialogue to get through things faster. I'll eventually get back to those I missed later and post them on here in organized fashion.
As for GS4, I actually have the notes for the next parts saved on my computer, but I still need to give it another proofread and QC since I usually have to research a few things after taking my initial notes. I'll see if I can squeeze in some of that in-between my TGAAC episode posts.
It has been 5 days since TGAAC was announced and I just realized
A lot of characters in this localized version keep the same names as their source for once. It makes sense given their respective locations. But in regards to this blog's Gyakuten Saiban vs Ace Attorney project, I regularly distinguish between the source and localized scripts by referring to the characters' respective names. This will be a little more troublesome if the name is the exact same.
I do not want to have to write "Well, in the source..." for another million times if I can avoid it, so I have a proposal for you all.
Should I just deal with it and write "[Name] JP" and "[Name] EN" or should I start coming up with creative nicknames? I'm gonna go entirely freelance with them, but for everyone's sake, at least I won't distinguish between "Naruhodo" and "Naruhodou", for example.
It may be a little ways down the line until I get into DGSvsTGAA, but I'm definitely gonna preorder this bundle as soon as I can. They even included the "Ryunosuke's 7 Deadly Sins" promos, lol.
Please excuse the awkward upload schedule. I've been playing DGS2 nonstop the past few days and it's destroyed my sleep schedule.
I’m back to work and I’m back in a roll. Let’s see if I can avoid setting yet another unwarranted hiatus. I mean, all this Ace Attorney news has gotten me hype again! And assuming those Capcom leaks are confirmed now, we’re even gonna get AA7 later this year! You can bet I’ll be there to keep you all updated!
(I swear, I’ll finally get back to DGS2 and finish it tonight or tomorrow. It’s been 4 years, Rubia. FOUR YEARS. You took as long as this Apollo’s game to come out after its initial announcement! ...Wait, I really did take almost as long, damn.)
Okay then, let’s be like Athena instead and get in! “LET’S DO THIS!”

I find the "ta da" bit here rather cute, as if implying that's where Trucy got her tic, but Valant in the source has his own signature tic, where he shouts "Arumajiki" in various ways; sometimes just as a magical chant, other times as a homophonous pun meaning "unworthy". Since it's also the name of the Troupe as well, I can't help but feel like he sometimes acts like a Pokemon, lol.

As pretty as this sentence is in English, it's a freakin' tongue twister in Japanese, where he throws in a lot of "no" particles and phonemes. For reference, I'll spell it out here:
"Seiki no kiseki no daimajutsu no tairin no bara no hana no yume no kaori no tachinoboru no!"
Which translates roughly to "A magical miracle of the century, of large roses, of dreams, of its scents, arise!" It sounds better in Japanese, though.

Incidentally, this is just a fun fact provided by the devs a while back: Valant is presumed to have extensive knowledge of stomach medicine because during his early days in the Troupe, he'd often suffer through stomachaches due to stress or whatnot and became well acquainted with their Troupe's infirmary. (I can't seem to remember exactly where I first heard of this, but I do remember a brief mention in some of the 4koma comics published for the Apollo Justice Anthology.)

They told me to give it to the

They said it was really
important!
Okay, this is the same convo from much earlier in the lobby, but I feel an explanation is better placed here with context. Just wanna clarify that while in the English script, the loc writers suggest that someone was telling Trucy what to do, but neither script suggests who it could be or how that conversation happened. If anything, I believe it makes more sense if Kristoph simply left that page on a bench in the hall with a note, and Trucy happened to pick it up. That explains why she wouldn't know who left the page there and there would be no way to trace said illegal evidence back to him.
