So I re-watched TFP, and probably one of the only times we got a glimpse of Miko's backstory was this bit from the Darkness Rising premiere (S1E2 I believe):

So, from the sound of things, Miko has a rather privileged upbringing. I'm guessing her parents work in the business field or somewhere elite for that matter for them to afford piano lessons and send her to an elite school, which is pretty typical here as someone who's currently living in Japan myself, and being able to speak to local youths in the area about something like this, and most agreed that they too had a similar upbringing.

For some who don't have that privilege like Jack, we think that sounds awesome, but then we get this response from Miko:

So, yeah, you're absolutely right about Miko feeling out of place and having to put on an act, probably because of her responsibilities (school, extra curriculars, school clubs, even going to school on a Saturday) and the pressure from her parents wanting her to go to a university (Bulkhead's conversation with her in the episode, "Deus Ex Machina"). Stuff like that sounds like a typical Asian stereotype, but it's true, sadly...

So, her jumping at the chance to study abroad in Jasper gave her freedom to really be herself, and it's something that she most likely didn't have back in Japan (possibly a societal thing too).

Things like: getting to wear what she wants to school instead of a uniform, being able to dye her hair, and not being bound by the shackles of her parents' presence, and feeling a little bit rebellious for once (possibly by the people she met at Jasper High prior to meeting Jack and Raf who knows).

This reminded me of a foreign exchange student from South Korea back when I was in high school in the U.S. and how he had that strict upbringing back home. Eventually, he became a jerk jock, became (for lack of a better word) "whitewashed," and occasionally got busted a lot, according to word of mouth at the time, and was eventually sent back home halfway of the semester 😬

Anyway...at least that didn't happen to Miko 😆

I hc Temi as Yorabba's niece! It hasn't come up on the blog yet but it's been kicking around in my head hehehe

Yngya was a mage in her mortal years, and had actually been cast out as a young girl from her village because of it. She found a new village near the mountain and had a family, before Chemach came to her with the winter crown.

Koka definitely still feels guilt over the fact she killed her own children before they cast the ritual of Rot. I definitely think it was a poison she gave them that would kill them in their sleep. She's not as okay as she pretends to be fsfs

Icegore is Yngya's beloved pet. She doesn't know it's still alive.

Rami is ADHD, Aniel, Baraq, Sariel, and Temi are different flavors of autistic, Koka has mild synesthesia as well as having psychic abilities that I really need to utilize more.

Future! Yngya runs a ski resort and spa that's managed by her followers.

Hellooo! I've been wondering about Ace Attorney Dual Destinies recently, and I know in the English localization, Blackquill is just a British weeb cosplaying a Samurai, which, yeah, that's great. He's straight up doing chuuni shit In Court™. It's definitely fun(ny), and at least one reason why he's my favorite, but... Is he a chuunibyo in the original, too? How similar are they? At what points do they differ? I don't like a full Read More (unless you want to), but. I'm so curious... Thank you!

And yes, he has sometimes been called "chuunibyou" by JP fans, affectionately ofc. Especially that after the initial impressions wear off and you get how he talks like he's a character ripped out of a samurai manga or something. A little tryhard, but in an endearing way.

I like how the localization gave him that sort of "posh" manner of speaking in English because unlike the common misconception or anime tropes, samurai of old were generally very educated and well-spoken. Like you more or less had to be of a certain status to become recognized as a samurai, kinda like how knights were in Europe and all. And while there were exceptions IRL, where samurai came from very poor / humble beginnings, they were rare.

Truthfully, the whole anime trope of the mysterious ronin samurai being a tough gruff-talking dude who rebels against the system became that way because it's based on real history. After a while, when the shogunate grew weak in the face of foreign powers, they underwent heavy revisions (began even before the Meiji Era) and samurai were deemed outdated and unnecessary. In those days it was all about going Western and traditional customs and stuff were cast aside for "modernity". As you can imagine, former samurai stripped of their titles didn't take that lightly and there were a number of samurai-led rebellions against the government and they got bloody. It took Japan some time to give samurai their heroic reputation back, though they did usually fight for the common folk, so that's also how they got their fame.

Anyway, it's my personal headcanon that Blackquill/Yugami is just the biggest manga otaku on this side of Japanifornia, barring Edgeworth/Mitsurugi himself. The chief sure knows how to pick 'em, lol.

What is something about Miikah you want people to know but you haven’t shared yet?

Miikah Is the same age as Anakin. When the clone wars began she was still a padawan, close to graduating but a padawan none the less, much like Anakin. Her master was Plo Koon and when the war started Plo send her to missions away from the conflict so she would be safe. However as the need for more Jedi became higher (reason to why padawans and younglings were promoted earlier ) Plo had to bring Miikah back and have her evaluated by the counsel, see if she was ready to be promoted. During that time, Miikah accompanied her master on the mission to find the separatist's secret weapon: "the malevolence." She was on that first ship that was attacked and destroyed, where only Plo, Sinker, Boost, Wolfee and her survived. The feeling of being marooned, the sight of all the other clones dying in front of her, the desperation of waiting for someone to rescue them, despite that not being an option. It changed something inside her. After returning safely to the Jedi Temple, Miikah was promoted to Jedi Knight and was given the opportunity to lead a battalion. Miikah decided to dedicate her squad to reconnaissance, specializing in Search and Rescue. That was the birth of the Rubble Battalion.
