you are now watching heirantv.
park chaeyoung (rosé), twenty7, cis female, she/her. ─── 3, 2, 1 — action! everyone, we’re here at jincheon national training center, and this time i have with me our national tennis team’s very own kim heiran. you might know them for winning an olympic gold medal at the age of 15, but if not, don’t worry. they’re here to field all your burning questions. let’s dive right in.
thanks for joining us today. so, tell me…
how does it feel to have been selected for the national team?
the slight crinkle of her nose that follows a shy yet genuine smile. it's the first of many in a long time as she recalls the very moment she was awarded with news that proved her excellence in the sport of tennis. "oh my... where do i even start?" a slight titter follows as she conjures up what could best describe the wave of emotions that washed over her that day. "i would say it's an honor, even above that to have been chosen to represent my country on the national team. it's an overwhelming sense of pride i have to know that there is potential seen in me from the best athletes out there." heiran beams as she spoke, the twinkle in her eyes shown as she looks up -- still feeling as though she was still some kind of dream-like state that she didn't want to wake up from.
what message would you like to send to your fans and supporters as you represent the country on the national team?
"thank you." heiran starts with a small nod. "truly from the bottom of my heart. i honestly believe if it wasn't for the massive amount of support and kind words from those who believed in me from when i started at such an adolescent age i would not be where i am today. i hope that you will continue to support me in my journey and i will continue to work hard to make you proud in ever match and endeavor i face from now and in the future."
amazing. addressing a sensitive issue now: the rumors on “105fm.” could you shed some light on any concerning rumors you’ve heard about yourself?
of course this topic would come up. heiran smile falters in the slightest -- barely noticeable as she keeps her composure. "rumors... not sure what rumors there are about me?" her words are chosen carefully. were there even rumors circling around about her and she was too busy to notice. she was sure that her family would brush those under the rug if it got out of hand or could this be about her sibling? even then she wasn't involved in that scandal other than the fact that she threaten to walk if they were to get kicked. "i can't shed light on something i'm not aware of, but what i can say is that i don't particularly pay attention to words written behind an anonymous source. i believe me and my fellow athletes on this team have better things to focus on at this moment in time."
… and, i’m sure your supporters want to hear your thoughts.
how do you stay focused on your training amidst the distractions caused by 105fm?
a chortle follows as she shakes her head. "it's quite simple, when you're doing something you love and appreciate things around becomes a blur. so, when i'm on the court whether it's practicing for a match, a tournament, even the olympics... there's nothing i'm worried about but becoming better in honing my skills. if i'm distracted that only allows me room for mistakes to happen, which is something i can't allow to happen if i know i can lessen that chance."
i see, i see. i’m afraid that’s all the time we have. thank you so much, congratulations, and best of luck to you and your team. to wrap things up, can you give us a quote?
"you have feet in your shoes. you can steer yourself any direction you choose."
