I love how Vimes immediate reaction is just "actually the quasi-demonic entity did not possess me and isn't real, I'm just like that", but also how he immediatly uses it for his own goals:
Like, you're literally somehow making the symbol glow while you do this. (Is it the Guarding Dark? Is it the Summoning Dark doing him a solid for the drama? Is Vimes just stubborn enough to make that happen when he wants it too?)
And then the funny thing too is that he's right. He has the potential to be that. But he forces himself not to be through sheer stubborness. Like the comparison of these two lines:
"little maggots" vs "just frightened old men"
It really demonstrates Vimes character, his worst depths and his growth over all these books.
Idk, I just think he's neat.
