“I’m not tired.” The words were spoken plainly, calmly, numb even, though her face was turned down, away from her eldest brother. She knew that he was only trying to help, but if the nightmare she had woken up from did not frighten her enough, the complete mess of her room did, sending a chill up her spine. That was why she was out of bed, wanting to go out into the fresh air but refraining, instead sitting against the wall in the hall of the Dumbledore home, attempting to calm herself down from her panic when her brother had left his room. She wasn’t sure whether he was simply awake or if she had pulled him from his own slumber, but she did know that thus was the last thing she wanted. She wanted to deal with this alone.
A trembling hand reaching to wipe away her tears, sniffing, she finally met his gaze, pulling her knees into her chest as though to both ground herself and make a statement that she wasn’t moving. “... I want to stay awake a bit longer. Outside of my bedroom.” Her brother did more than enough for her. The last thing she wanted was for him to see the sight that was her bedroom. “You should go to bed though... It’s late.” Or early, she supposed, but there was worry for her brother, worry that she could not silence, and part of that included not letting him see how upset she was. It was worth a try, though, adding a small, “I’m fine Al. I... I promise.” In attempts to further convince him.
