We’ve all been in situations where we’ve had to work in a group for a project and it ends up being hard work just to finish. Here I have compiled a list of different tips and tricks into surviving group projects. For this, I will be using Google Drive’s elements to show how I organise my group.
The beginning
If able: Choose your group wisely. - We all, when working in a group want to choose our friends. But this can sometimes be a bad idea, especially if you don’t see eye to eye. Working with friends can be a good thing, however, if you both work on the same mentality. Choose people you know you have a similar work style with and who are as hard working as you.
Talk over the project and the different workloads that need to be covered.
Share emails, numbers, etc. - This is your main form of communication outside the classroom, so make sure you can contact each other.
Use real time document editors. E.g google drive (It’s free!) - This makes working in a group 10x easier. Especially when working on an essay or PowerPoint as you can all edit it with the other person being able to see. This stops 1 person being the one who writes everything.
Create a folder for the project and share it with the group. - Make sure everyone has access to the folder. This way, people can see all the documents created and also make their own.
Create a project schedule - This can help organise when things need to be done, what needs to be included, who’s doing it etc. This can also act as a calendar for everyone on when deadlines are and when the group needs to meet up.
