Yesterday, we were shooting set walls with windows and it reminded me of this shot. The western window light on the floor is real. It was an accident that I loved so we took down the foamcore and shot the final this way. // Not everything is planned and yesterday a lot of what happened was trial and error. We set things up and noticed what was needed instead of anticipating what might be. This worked beautifully. // Also yesterday we saw someone in the yellow "barking dog" house get carried out in a body bag. We were eating lunch outside and there was a coroner and police in the next block. An older woman had passed away and the dog was barking and barking in the morning because something was wrong. When I left last night one of the western windows reflected golden clouds filled with pink and orange sunset colors. When I checked the sky it was too early for the sun to set. When I turned back to the window, the reflection was gone. Today is a shoot day. I have a crew coming for a location shoot. These are always tense in the beginning and then they end up being some of the best days of a career. // Good work takes prep and that's what's been going on for the past few weeks. Wardrobe pulling and shoe taping. Location scouting and product shipping. Don't forget lunch for the crew I tell myself. And real cream for coffee. // And then all the returns. Sometimes I look at shots and wonder - where is that prop? I'm imagining that it was a West Elm vase that got returned? Or is it in a box somewhere? It's going to be a big week. Today, we are back in the studio building two sets I designed. The reveal is always prefaced with anticipation. // This bathroom was a design nod to Barcelona. It reminds me of a hotel we stayed in @Abacrestaurant&hotel There was a back staircase that ran past the restaurant kitchen with modern lines and subtly lit stair treads. The architecture of that hotel sticks with me even today. // That small notch above the sink was inspired by that staircase.
