Pokemon Go Guide #3
If you did not grow up playing Pokemon (or if you need a refresher) please look up the Pokemon type chart and memorize it. This is necessary if you wish to utilize types into your battling strategy. For example, a water type attack on a Fire type Pokemon is super effective, regardless if it was administered by a water type Pokemon or not. When evaluating an enemy gym, look at the Pokemon line up (number of Pokemon, Pokemon types, and Pokemon levels) and the Gym's prestige. Even if the gym is full of pokemon you over power, you will still may need to battle it several times to bring the prestige down to zero and claim the gym for your team. You will be allowed to battle with 6 pokemon, however do not battle with the Pokemon you intend to leave at the gym once you conquer it. If you loose to a gym, you add to its prestige points. When battling friendly gyms the rules are altered. You may only battle with one Pokemon. You may leave a Pokemon to defend the gym as well after you have proven your worthiness. Again, do not battle with the Pokemon you intend to leave. Battling friendly gyms will up the gyms prestige, regardless if you win or loose (leaving a pokemon will also increased the prestige.) Once you have left a Pokemon at a gym, go to the main menu and click on the store. In the upper right hand corner you will see a shield and the number corresponding to the number of Pokemon you have defending gyms. You will want to collect your reward (stardust and poke coins.)
