Thoughts

Through the translation of all the templates, especially the Financial Statements, I've noticed that many of the words used and processes described are common for almost all countries in the world, however, when it comes to translation, it becomes tricky because you're supposed to know how processes are handled and manages on the country and culture you're translating for.

That's where glossaries come in handy and become indispensable in the toolkit of all good translators.

What is a template?

Is a preset form of a document. 

What is the function of a template?

it helps on having a starting point of a format used several times for the same purpose, so the person who uses it saves time and just has to fill the blank and customizable spots. 

What are the purpose and the structure of invoices and purchase orders?

Invoices and purchase orders are the manifest of a companie's services. Invoices serve as a list of delivered goods or services. Purchase orders work as the list of services and goods required from a client.

What is a mortgage?

A debt instrument, secured by the collateral of specified real estate property, that the borrower is obliged to pay back with a predetermined set of payments. *

Grande-Digue 15km Road Race

Well, the Run NB Super Series Road Races are up and RUNNING again for this season. On April 28th, I managed to complete my longest race so far, 15km, at Grande-Digue.

My first observation has to be about the weather. I suppose it could be called typical Maritime road running weather.  A howling 35-40 km wind, below zero temperature and there were even flakes of snow as we pulled into the car park. Pretty much what I have been used to during the winter months of training. On the positive side, there wasn’t any snow on the ground

One of the amazing things about running races in the Maritimes (and there are many amazing things which hopefully, if you keep reading my blog, you will find out about) is that regardless of the weather conditions, the volunteers and organisers are full of enthusiasm and encouragement.

My main decision of the day was which pair of running shoes to wear. Would it be my old white/blue/pink Saucony Guide 4 or my new very bright orange pair? I decided on the comfy old pair. My running buddies, Sue, Cindy and Richard kept me company for most of the race and I was delighted when I crossed over the finish line.

At Grande-Digue we all got finishers medals and a lovely T-shirt too. I think finishers medals are a great idea. Not many people can win races so it is nice to have the achievement of finishing a race recognised.

Onto the next amazing thing about running races in the Maritimes, the fact that most of the races have great post race food and prizes including age group prizes. I love them. Not because I have won that many prizes, I haven’t.  I am not boot camp coach supreme and speedster Brenda Guitard. (I have once or twice thought about changing my name but came to the conclusion that this wouldn’t help as she would inevitably win the race to pick up the prize when ‘our’ name was called out at any prize giving!) I digress, what I love is the food, of course, because I am always starving after a race, also, the camaraderie,  meeting new friends and catching up with old friends. There just is nothing better after a race.

The last word on the Grande-Digue race – Sylvio. He is the race director, and a lovely, friendly man too. I find his enthusiasm is infectious and long may it be so.

I couldn’t finish this piece without a mention about the journey back to Saint John. If anyone out there has a spare Garmin GPS for my car I would appreciate it. You see, we set off back to Saint John, going the wrong way! I am not sure where we were heading, probably out towards the ocean, I do know that it certainly wasn’t to Saint John. Now Michael, my lovely husband, was driving. He said to me, ‘I don’t recognise any of this do you think we are going the right way?’ I replied, ‘I don’t recognise anything either.’ At this point I looked through the back window and good see Cindy, Sue and Richard following in Cindy’s car so I said to Michael ‘Oh, nothing to worry about, we must be going the right way as that is Cindy following.’ Oh dear, that assumption was a big mistake on my part, as I later found out that Cindy, was following us, wrongly presuming that we knew the way home!!!!! Eventually we all got turned around and headed off in the right direction, but a GPS could well be a very useful tool for the rest of the season. I am sure someone must have a spare?
