Why Danes don't give a F*** about Valentine's Day!
First of all it is quite naive to believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated around the world. If you're good in history and religion then you should also know that Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia. However, this is not why Danes don't celebrate the 14th of February every year. It's simply because they just don't give a freaking f***!Believe it or not Danes are some of the most modern-nationalistic people in the world, and that is mostly in terms of economy. What in the hell does Valentine's day have to do with economy? Yeah, trust me it's all about economy, and not only Valentine's day - but many other commercial rituals. It is common sense to believe that commercialization has its roots in the capitalistic societies - usually stemming from US global market strategies. However, not all commercial rituals have had success in entering the Danish borders, and Valentine's Day is one of them. Despite the fact that The Netherlands time after time have tried to promote Valentine's Day in Europe, due to their economic interest on the flower export, they have continuously failed to target the Danish lovers.
