1967 Guild Starfire I Bass Cherry Red
Guild guitars never get brought up as frequently as Gibson or Fender, but they're equally revered and lusted over. As with a lot of their contemporaries, they have a shared history with a lot of other well know guitar brands. Their business got its first big boost when they picked up a lot of ex-Epiphone employees who were displaced when Epiphone left NY. Also, another commonality with guitar builders of the time, they were well versed in lutherie but often used third party electronics and components in their guitars, from DeArmond/Rowe in Ohio all the way to Hagstrom in Sweden. That brings us right to the amazing 1967 Guild Starfire bass we're looking at here. It is a tried and true old-school archtop construction with a new at the time semi-hollow center block (even with the center block this bass still comes in at only 7.0 lbs!!!). Guild chose Hagstrom hardware and electronics for these basses and it was clearly the perfect choice. Unlike a lot of other neck position bass pickups, this Hagstrom model is articulate and clear while still having a huge bottom end. It's a very expressive bass that really lets the player choose its character. Other details to note are the cool knobs (yes, we like knobs too!), the customary 3-pc Guild neck, and as this is an earlier Starfire Bass, it features the original symmetrical Hagstrom bridge shape. We really can't say enough about how much we love this bass, it might be the best one we've ever had come through our shop. All we know is that it deserves to get out there and get some action. This bass is currently available for purchase at Rock N Roll Vintage in Chicago. We ship world-wide.
