I bet you’ve heard of gum wrapper chains, but what about gum wrapper origami globes?
I’ve wanted to try making 3d modular origami with gum wrappers for a while, but never succeeded til I tried Maria Sinayskaya’s Star Sonobe pattern. I used Trident wrappers since the edges are smooth (not saw-toothed) and the ratio of the side lengths is roughly* 1:2, so it was easy to snip 15 wrappers into 30 squares. I love this pattern since the 30 units are simple to fold and interlock without needing any glue! There are multiple Star Sonobe tutorials on youtube.
*Trident wrappers are just sliiiiightly too wide to be perfectly 1:2 ratios, so I actually had to make two quick cuts per wrapper to get 1:1 squares. I’m just mentioning this because if you try to use paper that isn’t quite square enough it won’t work as well and that’s not fun. Or you could just use real origami paper.
