Book review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gumshoe by Brenna Thummler

My mom got this book for me, then I picked it up today when I was bored, and I couldn't put it down. Right away, I identified with the main character Willa. She's a quiet girl who knows what she wants, but her parents expect her to be perfect.

After a misunderstanding with her neighborhood mailman, Willa is terrified of getting in trouble. So she runs away. Pretty soon she meets three other runaway girls: Peps, Beanie, and Whip. They've been living on the road with a mailwoman named Susanna, who offers to take Willa along. All four girls have their heart set on meeting a notorious mail thief, Two Gum Tilly. "Oh, to be Wanted," says Whip throughout the book. The girls want to catch a criminal and be heroes, but they also admire Tilly for never having been caught before. Little do they know that they're much closer to Tilly than they think...

I love a good found family story, and this book delivers! (Oh, look at that, I made a mail pun.) "You're like my sisters," says Whip to the other girls. Whip, whom I love quoting, apparently, is incredibly kind even though she tries to act tough. Beanie follows the rules so carefully that she loses sight of what she wants. Peps always tries to be positive when deep down, she has so much self-hatred. Willa, of course, struggles with talking to people because she has social anxiety. Yet all four girls trust each other wholeheartedly. They really are like sisters. I was honestly a bit disappointed when they all went their separate ways at the end. That's how the hero's journey goes, I guess. The hero has to return home.

when gumshoe heard that he was assigned a partner – and one of the newbie detectives at that – he was ecstatic!

he was used to working alone, but he always preferred working with others! especially with a newbie, for whom he could take on a mentor role!

however, gumshoe's dreams were quickly crushed when he met you…

you were a lovely person and truly had the kind heart that a detective needs! but despite being a newbie, you were already amazing at your job! hell, you could even teach gumshoe a thing or two…

gumshoe still loved that he now had a partner that he got to spend time with! but it did sting a little that he couldn't be the cool older detective that you looked up to…

what stung even more was when gumshoe found out you got paid more than him! you only worked here for a few months but your salary was almost double of his!

however, gumshoe couldn't be mad at you! you were simply too fun as a partner for him to dislike you! you went along with all of his shenanigans, you two always had instant ramen together during your break and you always celebrated any cases that you two solved together!

even if things didn't end up how gumshoe had hoped for, he got an amazing partner out of this whole thing! and that's all that he ever wanted!
